So I'm proud to say the Mrs. took the jump today and purchased a 05 Sahara Rubicon. Number 419 out of 1000. Very exciting! Got it for 17k! It's in great shape with the exception of some needed new body mount bushings and a steering damper. The dealer took off the worn down Muds and put on a set of A/T's. (before we arrived) Not my choice but it'll do for now I suppose they're brand new.

Be on the lookout for some build info. It'll no doubtedly get built up similar to hang with my CRD Liberty when we go on trips! It has 50k on the clock and I already started a CRD swap fund for it! $5.00 in coffee can on the counter. :)

It's a very cool time, she can't wait to get out to our hangar and work on it side by side with me while I fiddle with my CRD or the Disco.

Good times!

I've never heard of a Sahara Rubicon. What makes it different than a Rubicon? Congrats!

I'm not 100% sure what the major differences are. It has everything the Rubicon has (locker, axles, etc...) but it also has the trim package of the Sahara. Upgraded seats, interior, traditional Sahara color...

It's actually on my list to research, I wasn't even aware they made them but apparently it was a limited edition type thing.

Sorry, only have a camera phone shot right now. We'll be working on it though so expect some close-ups!

That looks like an Unlimited Rubicon. The wheelbase looks longer than a standard one.

That vehicle in the photo has the distinction of having the longest model name in automotive history. The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited Sahara. Yep, it's special and there were only a few. Check out http://www.rubiconownersforum.com for details, as there are several members there. They'll tell you exactly what the differences are.

I'd keep the tires if I were you unless you're going to lift it. Buy a cheap set of steelies with some nasty, cheap bias ply Swampers and leave it be.

Thanks for the info guys. I've been digging and found some additional info. There isn't anything per-say special about it... It's basically a Unlimited Rubicon with Sahara trim. It is nice though!

Absolutely, no lift or messing around with the suspension. Just good Expedition mods. We've got the Disco on 36's for romping... Between this and my CRD we will have a capable stable for some long distance trips. I see a few team expeditions in our future!

I saw those at Camp Jeep back on '05. They made them to go with the Sahara movie that came out in 2005. A Jeep was featured in the movie, so they badged a few Rubicons as a special "Sahara" package. The movie stared Mathew McConaughey.

I think that's going to be my next Jeep, the 86 is getting a little long in the tooth like me, and it's a little short on comfort for my aging body too.

Can you post some interior shots? Your Jeep looks exactly like the one I'm buying from the outside.

Congrats on the Jeep. The Rubicon Sahara was a limited edition unlimited based on a the movie "Sahara" that came out in 2005. It's basically a upgraded Rubi with various options in the interior.

The Tomb Raider Rubicon from 2003 was pretty sweet as well. It came with upgraded wheels, a light bar, refined interior and a couple other do-dads.

Rubicon Saharas featured:

Chrome grill
special painted "moab wheels" the insides of the spokes were painted
some sort of a dash number plaque
decal on the outside...

there might be more, but I forgot.

The one I'm buying has all of that but the dash plaque. Does anyone have a picture of what it looks like?
