I just bought a 2002 Limited with 112,000 miles and was wondering if there was anybody from my area that might have some advice about mechanics and where to go to get off the beaten trail around hear.

A Dickson fellow over here and I have no clue about mechanics around the area. But I will be following to see if anyone knows of any trails around the area. I don't think there are any other middle TN folk on here though. There is Woolys off road park south of you in Colombia i believe. Then there are interesting parts of the Trans America Trail that runs in and out of the southern parts of the state, and there is always Land Between the Lakes on the TN KY border. Welcome to the Montero world though

Thanks jaccox23. I've never done any off road adventuring so I need all the advice I can get. Do work on your own rig?

I'm fairly new to the montero/4x4 world myself. So far I've done all my own work with a big thanks to this forum, 4x4wire, and the montero Facebook group. I've only owned mine for about 6 months and about half of that has been spent slowly catching up on maintenance (t belt, water pump, oil seals, valve cover seals, valve stem seals, hydraulic lifters, took radiator out and to a local shop here in dickson to be rodded and pressure tested, had to have the alternator taken to a local shop to find out all the internals were loose lol, then some fun things like upgrading all dash lights to LED installing some new LED reverse lights). If you have a Facebook look for the group Mitsubishi Montero USA and send a request and Frank will let you in. It's a very helpful community and you can get answers almost instantly there, where it could take almost a day here since people her usually log in once a day.

I'm in Knoxville. I would recommend learning to do the work yourself or very quickly the costs will be more than the vehicle is worth.

Zach-P, I am a newbie here also. I got mine in March 2016. I have an extensive background working on cars but never a Montero. After checking around with friends etc. I was able to find 3-4 local mechanics who are about 1/2 dealer prices. If you have time and a place to let your Montero sit while you do the work you might try doing some of it yourself. You can youtube some great how-to videos. As far as offroading is concerned there are a few basic tips: air down tires (I drive daily at about 36 psi, offroad at about 18 psi) a bit for traction and go slow. You will quickly get an idea about what you are comfortable and you will see how great the Montero is in the wild. Also a lot of videos of people driving offroad that may help. Find a buddy who has experience and get out and do some simple stuff to start learning. Have fun and good luck.
