Please post your thoughts on the 2.8CRD in that platform... is power adequate? What kind of mileage/range are you getting per tank? Really looking forward to this one!

AC/DC, what a hoot. Unlimited Rubicon is beautiful.

No mention of the goal, maiden voyage, or other trip plans . . . I simply must know where you're going to go with this "byoot." :Astrologist:

thanks for the compliments
Have you been able to resolve the roof leaks yet?
just picked it up from the dealer last night. they redid all the seals around the windshield and the center joint on the panel. i'm not sure if it's still leaking yet. i did a test with destilled water and it was fine. but now i have a bad whistling wind-noise on the freeway :-((( doesn't seem to stop.

i love the diesel! it feels a bit slow at first but when you really hit the gas pedal it takes off. it has about 30% more torque than the gas engine so it gets it moving pretty well. the 6-speed transmission is set a bit short (40mph in 5th) and high rpm on freeway speeds. but i talked to a guy who modifies jeeps here and he said they tested the JK with different tire sizes. he thinks 35's with stock gears are ideal for the torque and speed. in europe all JKs come with a dana 44 rear. only issue with 35s is the dana 30 front. but as long as you don't go too crazy (and here that's difficult anyhow) you should be fine.

as to milage: i'm only on the 4th tank and milage has been getting better but right now i'm at around 22 mpg around town
as to range: it's a 17 gal tank so it should get about 375 miles on a tank...

Very good feedback, XXX. I tested a 3.0CRD in the Grand Cherokee a few weeks ago and the CRD platform really is an amazing one. If only the 2.8 or 3.0 were available in a JK stateside. Time will tell. ;) Arrrgh...

I would love to have that mileage in the Xterra! What is so hard about is it that they are building the damn things stateside with the CRD and then shipping them overseas when there is such a high demand here. I really wish countries would come together and agree upon a set of emissions and safety standards. It would simplify the supply line for vehicle manufacturers and certainly would provide an easier mechanism to get all of these other vehicles we know and love, but that are unavailable to us. I am looking forward to this build. Keep us posted!!! :lurk:

emissions and safety standards
here they want to introduce a new system in oct. (possibly)
every car has a sticker (red, orange or green). when the pollution goes up to a certain level, all red-tagged cars are not allowed to be driven, at a higher pollution rate the orange ones are prohibeted too. green can always be driven.
my diesel has a fine particle filterand has a green sticker.

just a minor update

since it has been months it almost doesn't sound true anymore... :)

ok, i have cut a deal with some sponsors already (have for some time) but the going is tough. pretty much all my sponsors are in the USA and shipments to europe sometimes only happen every 3-4 month...
i was supposed to get the first parts in a week but there was a hold up. not all parts arrived :-(((
and it's a bit of a drive to get them so i don't want to drive up twice.
therefore i have to wait another month :-(

i can't wait to get over that stock-look...
i'll keep you posted...

btw. i have taken off the front part of the top twice and with the many rains we had it never leaked... hope it stays that way!
