New JKU Hardrock - Now I need the good stuff.

Hi All,

I finally pulled the trigger and handed off my WJ to my nephew early this week and after 24hrs of painful withdrawals I pulled the trigger on a '16 JKU Hardrock.

I'm looking for a rack for it but want to make sure that I can still pull the top off and use the soft top or go topless without much hassle. Is there an option that hinges? Or something made for the task without much trouble?

I'm also looking for some switch options inside, what do you guys use?

Lots of great choices, but think carefully

Congrats on your Hard Rock. I think you'll find it the easiest vehicle you've ever driven off road, and very comfortable for long trips on the road.

If the rack is loaded with gear, you won't be able to lift it back to manipulate the soft top.
LoD makes a rack that slides back. Loaded or unloaded, so the top can be raised or stowed. But it is not such a "pretty" looking setup. More of an industrial design.

Quadratec catalog has a good list of different racks. Might be a good spot to start looking.

Instead of an overhead rack, I went with an LoD rear bumper that has a rack over the spare tire. Works great for lighter smaller loads.
There is a build thread in the signature below, if it helps.

Switch panels

I missed your question on the switch options, sorry about that.
Lots of great options including Blue Tooth controlled switching.
sPod, and others make a nice switching package with relays, or High Power Mosfets.

I used OTRATTW switches in an A Pillar pod from Rugged Ridge.

Really like the OTRATTWs switches, and they do custom faces as well.
The Rugged Ridge A pod is *just OK* in my book. The surface doesn't match the new JK interior, and it's a very tight fit for the OTRATTW switches.
I like this placement though. Especially when bouncing around on the trail.
The down side is anyone can reach in the rig and flip the switch, so all these switches are "accessory power only".
Hth,

I have a Gobi stealth roof rack, it's a no drill installation, and tilts so that you can drop the soft top or change to the hardtop without too much problem. I've never seen one in person but look into the Rhino Rack roof rack, if I didn't already have the Gobi I would have looked into the Rhino Rack for sure.

Aev and arb make some awesome stuff for Wranglers, I have the AEV suspension and wheels, an ARB front bumper and lots of accessories, and generally very happy with the products from both of these companies.

When it comes to Jeep accessories you get what you pay for, so try to stay away from the cheapest parts.
