I was wheeling with a group last weekend and one guy had one with the 6 cylinder turbo-diesel here in Guatemala. That was the first time I saw one. Looks a little weird with the aerodynamic headlights!!
New LC70 serie in Australia...another dream truck we won't see here -V8 Turbo Diesel!

it's pure speculation, but my impression is that they have done this change to the front design to accomodate the larger new V8 and probably for some safety regulation issue (when you hit a pedestrian....)
i do like the older design better...like the one I have..

that's not bad. Maybe we should start a camper conversion(poptop) company in Guatemala based on this Troopie...similar to the Australian model. The customer will need to fly down there to pick it up (purchase or rent), and then get to drive it around Central/South America...

G'day all,
Yeah the new cruisers are pretty good. I work at Toyota here in Melbourne, Australia and we were the first to get them here. The engines themselves have alot of potential and are extremely underpowered in their current form.
The 200series wagon coming out next year has a twin turbo setup of this and an intercooler and pumps out 600-650 nM of torque.
I dont know if you guys have heard of D-Tronic there in the states but a company here in Oz makes power chips for turbo diesels and they get them moving big time. I have heard of a 7.3 F series powerstroke diesel that pumps out 950 nM of torque just with a chip mod......thats awesome.
Anyway, back to the cruiser, the medium wheel base wagon is a nice family car, though it doesnt get the twin tanks that the cab-chassis and the troop carrier get.
They really are indestructable these trucks, even the older ones go on for ever and feel like they could tow a house.
anyway, while you guys drool over our cruiser's, we wish our Hilux's were like your Taco's...he he he!

As far as I know the new Cruiser known as the 200 series wagon will have independant suspension all around, developed by some company here in Australia.
It wont be the offroad king anymore, that will be upto the 70 series variants.
The 200 series will be a on road family cruiser and large soft roader.
I honestly do not see it being as tough as its reputation used to be.

Gosh, I really hope not. I would be OK, if they at least carried over the 100 series rear axle and front IFS.
From the photos I've seen, that thing is HUGE. Although a turbo diesel version would sure be nice. It will be interesting see what we get here in the states. With Toyota's new 5.7 V-8 making gobs of horsepower, I'm sure we'll see as that the primary and probably only engine option.
But IRS....please say it ain't so.....
