New member saying hello & tire question

Nice looking rig.

If I were going to go with an A/T, based solely on reviews from the web, money being no object, I'd go with the Michelin LTX A/T2 first, and the Firestone Destination A/T second (money being an object). Both of these are available in 31x10.5s.

I don't know that you'll have better luck selling your current tires mounted or not. The next potential buyer may have a different bolt pattern or want a different offset.

I'll look in to both!

Good point, very true.

Welcome to the portal fellow XJ'er!

Looking forward to seeing your pictures. I cant see them at work. The Speedo gear in located on the output shaft of the transfer case. Really easy to change, but if you are at 31" now and youre speedo is dead on, I would stick with the current tire size. 31" tires stuff well with the lift you have and 33" tires will require minor trimming.

As far as tires, I have always run an aggressive tire. That will change my next set though. I first had Goodyear MT/R. Great at first, but as they wore, they had serious balancing issues. I currently run Firestone Destinations M/T in size 31". They come in load range C and for a M/T tire it has a softer compound and good road manners, but chunks easily. They do balance really well too. But my next tire will be the BFG A/T's. I have never run them so I want to give them a shot.

Sir, welcome to the forum, but know this...in the "expedition" world, it's spelled "tyres."

Pick any tire you want, but whatever makes a tire good on-road will work against it off-road, period. Figure out how much off-road performance you need and work backwards toward silence for on-road performance to find your compromise tire.

The more you compromise on road performance, the more likely you'll get stuck off-road. If you've ever used a true off-road tire, there is no comparison between it and an all-terrain or street tread.

I understand this.

currently I'm running 31X10.50 M/T Baja MTZ's. In my meager experience they are a pretty stout tyre;)

What I'm looking for is input from folks who have a lot of experience running overland - hi-way and off road. As I've said before, hi-way safety is of paramount importance to me. Off road, I may have difficulty where I most likely will have the time to figure out an alternate route or find a creative way to solve the problem. I find this preferable to crashing at 70mph due to inadequate tyres.

I'm hoping there are some here who might chime in and and help me decide.

Many Thanks,

Rich

AT/revo

I've been looking at the Bridgestone dueler AT/revo.
It is available in 31x 10.50
From what I've gathered, other than some complaints about tread life it seems to be garnering some very good reviews both on pavement and off.
Anyone have anymore info on this one?

Many thanks

I have them on my 6,500 lbs Nissan Armada. They are fantastic on the road, and handle rain well, but haven't done anything more than that so far. They are an extremely smooth tire, far better ride than the previous Continentals the truck came with, and they look a bit more aggressive than typical street tires. I would expect them to do well on dirt roads and maybe snowy conditions, but there's not much side lug for any serious off roading.
