Hi Guys! I wanted to introduce myself and say thank you for being such an awesome resource on information about the Monteros. I have read through numerous threads and builds before deciding on the Montero.

I just picked up a 2000 Montero Endevor, 155k miles on the clock, in pretty decent shape. Mechanically, it has just been refreshed. Previous owner replaced the timing belt, water pump, injectors and spark plugs and wires, 2 months prior, with receipts. Brakes, tires, and hitch are from the beginning of this year, so that are also in great condition. Interior needs a bit of love, but nothing some goo-gone, time, and a carpet kit can't fix.

Plan for now is to leave it pretty much stock, since it will be my daily driver. I have a small list of things that will be done in the short term.
Remove running boards
Remove 3rd row seats ( For sale if anyone is interested)
Remove chrome trim
Touch up paint on faded areas
Replace carpet
Add some good floor mats
Add seat covers
Bigger all terrain tires

Longer term will be:
Rear locker
Sliders
New leather seat covers

Let me know what you guys think and any recommendation on the seat covers or mats.

Other car in the stable is a 2004 Corvette Z06, that is being relived of its daily driver duties.

Welcome aboard! Take your time, just do it right. Nice looking truck I bought a 99 not the color I would have liked but in the condition and price range I was looking for. Mine is burgundy and silver.

very nice looking monty...thats the same color as my gen 3 :)

any smoke out the tailpipe after long idles?

Thanks! No smoke as far as I can tell. I had it idling for about 15 minutes with the AC on and didn't see anything.

Thanks! I dig the burgundy! Yours looks nice, I read through your thread and I'll be doing similar things. I like the new tires! I'm also an S-Chasis owner in a previous life. 1 S13 coupe and one S14 Zenki.

In the past I've had one s12, s13, 95 s14, and now a 97 s14 is the only one left. The burgundy is growing on me now.

Let me know when you get closer to swapping in the rear locker, I will be selling the one out of my 98 after I swap in some 95 axles for better gearing.

That's a nice evolution up the line!

I'm definitely interested! When you swap it, let me know and I'll let you know if I have the cash on hand.

A little update since the last time I posted.

I took out all of the seats and cleaned and shampooed the interior. Not all of the stains came up but smells fresh as can be. The previous owner had never cleaned the interior, I'm 99.9% sure of that. I would have taken more pictures but honestly it was so time consuming cleaning everything that I didn't have time. I also removed all of the faded fake wood trim. I should have bought stock in Goo-Gone.

Ended up removing the running boards and getting some 31x10.5 BFG AT KO. I wanted to get the KO2, but found a deal on craigslist for $250 for all four and they still had rubber nipples on them.

And then just used it. A few local trails and hiking trips. And of course I always forget to take pictures of the Montero on the trails.
Picked out and cut down our own Christmas tree. Pretty cool experience and definitely recommend it. The Montero makes the 7 foot tree look like a toy.

This was our 3rd year cutting down our own tree with a forest service permit and it will always be part of our holiday tradition.

Looks great. Exactly like my 2000 only way cleaner! You should grab some 7mm plastic hole plugs for the mud flap holes left in the fender. Spray them with silver paint, seal them with a little silicone and you're good to go.

Ah, good idea. I was thinking of a way to plug them! Thanks for the tip!

I guess all S-Chassis nerds ended up with Gen 2/2.5 Montys. I always wanted a Patrol, but since we can't get them here a Montero is the next best thing.

Any of you guys following Dakar this year? That is how I got into these trucks after I saw the Repsol Gen 3 ripping up the old Paris to Sengal route and taking the title of King Of Dakar.

Found some coverage for Day 1 in Argentina:

Cool that link work around thing worked; remove the the (dot) for '.' and it should work. Commentary obviously in Argentinian...

Edit: Oh, its Live! Moto opening celebration on now. Dakar really needs to go back to Africa, this is nice, but Dakar needs the African terrain.

Man I need to do a deep cleaning of my truck too...I guess this three day weekend will be used for something productive. And yes I wanted a patrol I found an old one but too much rust, then after many days of research because I was trying to avoid the Ford and Chevy brands I ended up choosing a Monty over a Trooper.

Swift I noticed that some s chassis owners end up with monteros because of the comments... crazy I guess we all think alike in a way
