Figured I'd drop a quick intro. I'm a complete noob to the 4Runner and am not hugely mechanically skilled although I can learn, so bear with me! Very familiar with hunting, fishing, and camping, however, so I was looking to make that kind of life easier and finally found a '91 4Runner for $800. It has high miles and issues, but the price was right and it really goes places. I'm particularly interested in the budget build threads and getting it tricked out for trouble free fishing trips.

Main thing right now is the truck (automatic) sometimes drops overdrive at high speeds after it's warm. Instead of going 90 kmh with 2000 rpm, it'll dog out at 70 kmh with the RPMs at 5500. It seems to go away after hitting reset on the overdrive or coming to a stop and cycling through the gears manually. Looking around the web has given me a bulletin that states "High resistance E-17 splice, behind power steering pump. Clean and re-solder."

Has anyone dealt with this? It's an annoying problem and I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for as the bulletin has an arrow but no picture. There's a boxy looking item in the right region of the engine with a '62' on it. '91 auto V6 376,000 km.

Thanks guys. Hopefully I can pin it down and then move on. Doesn't really matter in the back country cause I can't go fast anyway.
