New Suburban owner, new to exped

Hey everyone! Been lurking for a while, gathering information to help me decide on my first 4x4.

Been offroading a modified Subaru Forester, been great fun, but as my family has grown to 2 dogs and girlfriend, the reliable Subi just wasn't handling the gear load or the trails I wanted to do out here in Colorado.

Made a big jump to the 'burb after 8 months of saving and consideration. Couldn't be happier so far.

Meet Rhino, named after the character in the Disney movie "Bolt." :wings:

Specs:

1988 Chevy Suburban 1500
181,000 miles
350 engine
700R automatic transmission
4 inch suspension lift
35" tires
1 ton axles
Rear locker
Manual locking front hubs
Front brush guard with integegrated winch mount tied into frame
full tow setup
auxiliary backup lights
Upgraded sound system
CB radio (need antenna and mount though)

Been well maintained with some nice engine upgrades. Not power upgrades, more reliability upgrades. Runs and shifts well for the mileage on the original engine and transmission. I've done an almost full tuneup (cap and a few other things to do after the holidays) and I'm happy with what I've found.

Price was right given the mods, so am willing to deal with the high mileage knowing rebuilds will come soon.

I'm no mechanic, with very very little wrenching experience. Thankfully a local 4x4 club has taken me under their wing, teaching me a bunch of stuff. Thanks guys, you know who you are.

Anyway, I'll probably continue to lurk for the most part. Plenty of plans for the rig, mostly interior. My girlfriend Karla and I aren't really that into rock crawling, we're more the camping type. This truck will be built accordingly.

Thanks to everyone for having such a great, informative forum. Happy to be here, even happier to finally introduce myself. :safari-rig:

Welcome aboard, and kudos to a sick and aptly named Suburban. :smiley_drive:

Hey thanks! My girlfriend Karla and I have drooled over your Tahoe many times.

Nice to see someone else gets the name reference. Yes, I'm 28 years old, and yes I like animated movies.

35th and Kipling. :)

Keep your eye on CL, there are good deals out there on the older straight front axle 'burbs. Good luck with your hunt!
