New Tacoma bed tie downs

I just ordered a new Tacoma :wings: and saw the there are no "sturdy" bed tie downs in the bed directly behind the cab. It doesn't feel like the rail mounted cleats are very rugged....I like the ones that are mounted on the floor of the bed near the tailgate. Is is as simple as ordering two of those and drilling through the bed behind the cab and mounting them with a backing plate?

The part number for the tie-down rings (they come as a pair) is: PT785-35054

Here is a link to the install instructions.

It was one of my first "mods". They work great.

Alternately, there are two bolts at the front of the bed, holding the bed to the frame. Use a Torx 55 bit (might want a breaker bar) to take these out. There are some bevels to hold the washers on, use a dremel, or similar tool ( I used an angle grinder and a vise but dremel wouldve been much cleaner) to grind down the bevels. Slide the washer off and slide your new tie down on to the bolt, slide the washer back on and re-install the bolt. That way, you don't have to drill into your bed and the tie down is installed into the frame.

I ordered the tie downs from my local dealer.
