New to EXPO With a cherokee

Hey My names Hunter I am from Tucson AZ. I drive a 2000 Cherokee with a cheap 3" lift from procomp soon to be rolling a Oldman EMU I got from a junkyard off a members rolled 1998 cherokee. Thats actually how I found this site. Looking for lift info. The cherokee I got the parts off of was a bright Blue 1998, can't remeber the members name but he pretty active over here.

Well I am just getting started with this type of offroading. I mainly use the Jeep as a DD and I don't plan on destroying it trying to be a rock crawler. I just want to get offroad and see thing off the beaten path. I am also in to photography so I hope this cherokee will open up lots of new photo ops.

Well I will leave you with a few shots from my last little trip to Sunnyside Ghost Town down near parker canyon lake.

Thats the jeep. But it was a little more crushed when I saw it. The steering was destroyed along with the discos and swaybar. But I got all the shocks and springs, and the tanks skid and CB.

I wanted the bumper but it was destroyed as well.

As far as sedona fest. I doubt I will make it but I am planning a day trip with the girl and the dogs up there soon.

Yep thats Bobby he is around here somewhere.....

Cool well post up if you'd like some company I'm always down for a Sedona run if I can make it!

Well hello there. I'm not gonna lie, my throat got a lump in it when I read the beginning of this thread. You got one hell of a suspension now. I wanted to pull it off, just didn't have the means. I hope it lasts you longer than 6 days...

Just so you know, if you don't have a heavy aftermarket rear bumper, the leaf springs are gonna be a bit stiff. They have an OME add a leaf to support the weight of the Garvin bumper I was able to (mostly) salvage. The coils are a little beefed up too, they're actually for a ZJ, so you'd be safe putting a heavy front bumper on there, too. And the CB's speaker is blown. You can get an external speaker for it, though.

I'm glad those parts aren't going to be trashed. When did you join ExPo and how did you know it was my rig?

Thanks for the info on the suspension. Guess its time for some bumpers as well.

Kinda odd how I found this was yours. I am a member over at NAXJA.com and you posted a picture of your rig in the AZ readers Rig section. I usually cruise thru that section looking for good ideas or cool looking rigs. I remember looking at yours because of the damage it sustained and how you were able to walk away.

So fast foward to last week and I was in Phx looking for a sety of tow hooks and a gastank skid. When low and behold thers your cherokee at the junkyard. Some one had already taken the rear axel and the motor and tranny were out but when I noticed the EMU shocks I got a little excited. Then a quick wipe of the leaf spriings showed they were brand new. So basically I had the guy make me a killer deal on the whole kit since I kept telling him that I was taking a risk since there were probaly all twisted and blown out.

I passed on the steering stablizer since he wanted too much and it looked like it was crushed but the front skid. I basically had him throw in the CB for free since I was pretty sure it may be broken. Glad I didn't pay the $50 he wanted for it now.

So I was searching google for "Old Man EMU" looking to see if there was any part of the kit I was missing when I stumbled acrossed your post here about the accident. Then after reading some more of the site I realized this is not a typical 4WD site that focus on Rock crawling. And since I really would rather explore then go crawling I figured why not join.

Welcome to the Expo, it's a small world isn't it.

That's an exception, not the rule...

Last XJ I Owned got "tapped" from behind by a 16y/o girl on her Cell phone. Total write-off, and I've since been hit about 2X as hard in my current rig and you'd never know. Then I rolled a 93 XJ and had I not had a co-pilot with his wits about him I would have been decapitated when the A-Pillar crushed in and took the seat's head-rest off instead... again, the truck was a total write off where most rigs could have been saved. Don't count on the "toughness" of one of these trucks to save your life.

Cheers

You're right, Dave. If I was wearing my seatbelt, I would've been killed.

No kidding? what happened to you, I forget, I remember that your blue/purple truck got smashed but I don't remember the story??? Working in the ER adn as both a Firefighter and EMT, I can tell you that it's 50/50 lives saved to lost with/with out seatbelts... That said, I ALWAYS put my seatbelt on.

Cheers

Dave
