So this story starts with a man and a Tacoma. He found the right girl, married her and promptly dragged her into the back country to go camping and offroading. The Tacoma worked great with its custom bed rack that held a RTT, and it carried them all over the country for 5 years.
Finally the girl decided it was time to become a mom, and my relationship with my Tacoma would never be the same again. At this very moment she sits with a For Sale sign in her window.
We bought ourselves a 2000 LX470 this past spring, for a steal from an old lady and went on a roadtrip this summer with our 6 month old. Space, while generous over the Tacoma quickly filled. The man loves the concept of offroad travel and long journeys into the wilderness and the woman is still shaking her head and making reservations at hotels.
Finally while walking the rows at a Military Vehicle Rally in NH, a trailer was found! It was a 1951 M100 with a fresh coat of paint, and from the pictures was in great shape! The I jumped into action and bought it right then and there, without ever seeing it in person. Remember this detail as it's important later. A good friend of mine was local to the trailer and brought it down to where I was staying at the time on vacation, and we had a campfire and some beers. It arrived in the dark. I awoke the next morning, and ran outside to see my new trailer!
Much to my dismay, the 'barn find' trailer hadn't even been washed before the new paint was sprayed on, some crappy walmart lights was been hacked onto the sides and it was sporting the remains of 3 wiring harnesses. The tailgate was a hack job, the bed was so thin I wasn't able to stand in it, and the drain ports were full of rust!
To say I was upset was a massive understatement. I was due to leave for Texas, a 2400 mile drive in three days, and this thing was a mess! I quickly posted a craigslist ad to try to drop this mess on someone that had more time. I had heard nothing back and so the day before we were supposed to leave I had the bearings packed, and we aligned the axle to tow as smoothly as possible.
EUREKA! I had a text that night at 10pm. A young man nearby wanted the trailer, but had no way to move it. I agreed to meet him the in morning, and dropped it off on our way out of town!!!! The real crazy part was I actually made $$! I posted high on Craigslist expecting the buyer to haggle, but he paid my asking price and so I drove away $200 up!
Then, fate intervened and a seller here on the boards messaged me about his trailer he was selling. A deal was struck and a few short days later I was rolling into his driveway to buy it.
