Well, I'm off to Colorado later this week to pick-up my new (to me) U500 and drive it back to British Columbia! Needless to say . . . . I'm VERY excited!!!

Eventually we'll have a camper built on the back and then we'll drive off into the sunset travelling around North, Central and South America, followed by Africa, Europe, etc.

Well, that's the plan anyway. It will probably be a few more years until we're ready to depart. In the meantime, I'll have some fun with the U500 as my daily driver.

I'd give my right testicle for one of them. Love it, can't wait see what you're going do with it.

Sounds like a good plan to me.

The U500 as a DD? I would do it!

Well, I know there is a similar U500 for sale in California but unfortunately the seller is looking for a left testicle as opposed to a right one. :)

Now that you've scored your truck, please tell us how you searched for it. Web sites like commercialtrucktrader.com and truckpaper.com? Craigslist? Google search of Unimog sites?

Is this the truck you purchased? http://unimogshop.com/ads/2005-unimog-u500/

It took me quite a while to find the right truck and yes, the one you linked to is the one I've purchased. I searched on Unimog Shop (where I eventually found this Mog), Unimog Exchange, Mobile.de, Craigslist, Kijiji, this board, Atkinson Voss, Benzworld, and a few other sites both here and in Europe. I took a trip out to Alberta to view one mog which looked promising but walked away from it after it failed an inspection. All in all, it was fun process searching for the Mog although I must admit I'm glad I finally found one and can concentrate on other things for a while.

Congratulations - they are fun to drive.

If you are coming back through Seattle would love to catch up. Maybe show you our U500 and camper.

Did you source the truck through Rob in La Junta ?

Hi Rob

Yeah, I purchased it through Rob in La Junta. I will be coming up through Seattle and would love to stop by and see your rig. I've seem the photos on your website and have been drooling over it ever since. I was actually going to email you with a few questions about your build but if you're in Seattle I'd love to stop by and chat to you in person.

Well, picked up the U500 today and am in the process of driving it back. Lots of fun so far and quite a bit different from the ol' 1550L!
