This is my first truck, 1992 ford ranger xlt 3.0 v6 auto 134,xxx on the OD. I got it stock 1 year ago. It has a 4 inch rough country lift, 31x10.5 General Grabber AT 2, had a new radiator and fan replaced. She runs great Im using the truck as a DD as well as camping/ light trailing and cruising.

Plans for the near future include:
4.10 LSD rear end
Underdrive pulley for the crank
Sleep platform/stow compartments for the bed
Maybe an add a leaf for the rear
Any tips are always appreciated! Thanks!

I would suggest only that you choose wisely on your sleep platform.

IE Do you want to put in one massive drawer that will pull out the length of your bed? (My personal favorite, but it is expensive.) Or do you want the doors to access the under bed storage to hinge in the middle and open from the edge? (this obviously allows greater access when you are sleeping) Or do you want the bed surface to open from the middle and the doors hinge on the outside edge of the truck bed? (Obviously this will allow for ease of access when the bed surface is not in use.)

I would highly recommend that you put in a 12v socket in the bed of the truck, perhaps more than one if you intend to run a fridge. Then I would pick up the ARB light stick, it has something like 50 LEDs in it, and plugs into your lighter socket. They are super nice, and will make for a wonderful light in your sleeping compartment, or if you are in need of light outside at any time. Last thing... I think if I were you, and I did not go with the full drawer business, I would still put in a drawer at the end of the box which would house my cook set, and a sink. The sink can have a hose that will attach and allow for drainage under the truck, but it is super nice to have a good kitchen when you are camping, and one that just pulls right out greatly improves the ease of use factor.

You have a great looking truck there! Best of luck accomplishing your dreams, and congrats on not waiting forever until the "right" truck comes along, and WELCOME to the forum!

a friend of mine has one done nicely, since the truck is a bit of a dog, weight is the main issue. He has his framed with 1x2"s and his plywood platform fills the bed just above the wheel wells with some hatches in the wood to access rear under platform storage. Then just get some stowing totes for cookware, clothing, food supplies, tools etc.. The power outlet is definitely a must and some nice lights would be nice as well as a cargo type bungee net fastened to the "cieling" of the shell.

Check out your local Habitat For Humanity "RE-STORE". They basically sell anything out of a house that you take out when doing a remodel. You can find all sorts of paint, cabinets, wood, and carpet from them for a fraction of the typical prices. Getting some nice carpet on the back hatches may be all you need to toss a sleeping bag in there and be very happy.

I have a 1992 Ford Ranger too and i want to put the rough country 4'' suspension lift, what (if any..) lines did you have to extend, like for instance did you have to get longer brake lines. ive never lifted a truck before and i want to. please reply

Post is a bit old, but I would suggest 4.56 gears since you're running 31s on a 3.0L V6. Those engines like a lot of RPM, and will actually get better MPG that way as well.

A 4" lift will require longer (or at minimum, relocated) brake lines for sure.
