Hello everyone,

I just joined the forum and thought I’d introduce myself. I am a long-time rover owner and am currently building up my “budget LR3” for some off-road/overlanding Adventures.

It is a 2005 with 299k miles that I picked up in Nov (it had 296, but I’ve been driving it as much as possible).

So far, I have installed proud rhino rods, 275/65-18 Goodyear wranglers, CFE front bumper w/ terrafirma 12k winch, and a terrafirma front skid plate. I also have a gap tool for fine tuning of the suspension.

I look forward to picking your brains on some of my upcoming mods!

Evan-
Welcome aboard. As you do your build, definitely make sure you've baselined the fluids and such.

Nice thinking about having a 300k mile LR3...anything that has needed to be fixed, probably has. Twice.

Maybe a photo or two to let us see what this beauty shows off.
If you intend to travel then maybe thoughts of how you might be able to sleep and camp in it. I had a space that was made into a sleeping platform on my 07 LR3 by using Front Runner drawer system. Going on a 8 day adventure the end of this month and sleeping inside rather than a tent.

For sure. Differential and t-case services are on the to do list. I already did a transmission service with new pan/filter internal seals and cleaned/tested solenoids. I got it pretty cheap due to the fact that it had some transmission issues, but they all went away after I changed out the 296k mike fluid that’s was in there

It was an original owner vehicle that came with a 3” thick folder of dealer records. New compressor (oem) last year as well as new air springs (aftermarket) the year prior.

I’m probably going to head down the RTT trail, as I still want to be able to use the 3rd row seats ( my 95 RRC and 12 RR S/C only seat 5) and I have at least one or two dogs that will be joining me and will probably sleep inside of the vehicle.

I would have gone the RTT route but can't get that arrangement in my garage and I am not willing to let this LR sit in the drive all year long leaving it to the elements and the vandals. Anyway I would have gone with the Alucab arrangement as it is a bit more robust and looks better than a huge black glob on the roof creating a huge wind block and a hindrance to my less than superior gas milage.
Keeping the third row seats was not a consideration as there is only the two of us and the sleeping arrangement created with the drawers was more of a storage requirement that just worked out to be hugely beneficial.
I have not met anyone with dogs that does not consider them family and also consider them in any decision, camping or otherwise.

I have been very happy with my autohome RTT; the hardshell is fantastic for setup/teardown speed-and the effect on mpg was minimal.

Pic as requested.

My Disco lives outside so that the classic and S/C can live inside.
