Hey all! I FINALLY found a set of forums that support the good old Monty! Holy cow!

Anyways, a little about me:

I currently landed a 95 Monty LS for a good price, and all it needs is a little love. This is the 5th Monty our family has owned. I blame my Dad for getting us stuck on them, who in turn blames our unit for getting him stuck on them. We've had all 4 types of Montys, from the Gen I all the way through the Gen III (in which we still own), and even a Monty Sport (turned out to be a lemon). So I'm far from new to knowing what incredible things these trucks can do, and even got rid of a Land Rover AND a Jeep for one.

First things first, tires. The ones on it are balder than Samuel L. Jackson's head in Star Wars. What size can I fit on it (stock lift and rims)? I'm looking at 265/75/R15 and 31x10.50x15. Can I go bigger? Do I really need to go bigger?

Next, the sunroof doesn't want to open, and I think the motor is dead. I would use the hand crank, but the toolkit in the back door is missing. Where can I get a new tool kit AND how much/difficult would it be to replace the motor?

Thanks for the time ... and if any of you are in the NW Florida area, hit me up!

Patrick.

Welcome to EXPO!

Me driving two sizes of Tires, on the first Pic you see the normal Rims with
265/75 15 Cooper Discoverer M+S ( my first choice for Winter...) and
on the two other Pics my AT on Monty Sport 16" Rims.
There 235/ 85 16 ( simular to 32") and for this I lifted the Rig 2".

Many came from the dealer with 31's. The key considerations are the stock rim width (6 or 7") and the tire width.

I for example am running 12.5" wide tires on 15x8" rims and the minimum rim width (from the tire manufacturer) is 8.5". Being so close the the recommended width most shops have no problem mounting them even when they know it's a tad too narrow.

Easiest place to get the parts is a salvage yard that has an old Montero in it. Otherwise, the dealer, msrecycling or maybe even car-part.com may have it. Alternatively an Allen wrench on a socket driver also works for the sun roof.

Well ... luckily for me my tire issue was solved. When my Heep (read: Jeep) decided to commit vehicular suicide, or Hari Kari in "Mitsubitchin" terms, I cannabalized my BRAND NEW (read: less than 2 weeks old) Firestone Destination A/T's in 31x10.50x15 tires off of it and mounted them to the stock rims.

Those tires are perfect. They fit well (duh!) and ride amazingly. No road noise, and the grip is comparable to mud terrains. I took it out today to put it through it's paces (so I thought) and still haven't found this particular truck's limits.

Unfortunately I have to keep it a little lower than what I wanted because it's doubling as my daily driver/family touring truck. My wife would've let me lift it 2" and throw 35's on it, but she's so short it's a little difficult for her to get the kids in and out of their carseats. Cool with me.

Expect to see a build thread from me shortly in the future. I think the only things I'm going to do to it for now are a snorkel, bumper/winch, rack deal. Also, looking to see if I can garner enough interest to make a trip for all of us in the Southeast US states. I'm in Northwest Florida mainly, but willing to travel to other locales.

Well ... I haven't taken anything off of it yet, so no.

I would take it off, but the question that I have is would I degrade the on road ride quality by removing it? I know with my Jeep when we removed the sway bars, the body roll was horrendous, but I got some serious flex out of them.
