Hey I found this site yesterday and love it! It is a welcome change from those extreme rockcrawling sites that don't much cater to the backbone of fourwheeling. It is great to the different rigs stock and modified. I have a '88 suburban. Currently with three inches of lift and 33' bfg mud terrains and a self made custom rear bumper (or scraper as I like to call it) the burb hangs out the back a bit. Soon to change the 10 bolts for a 44 front and a 14 bolt rear. I think I will stay open for now. It's plenty flexy. I will add a couple more inches of lift when I do the swap. It has been a great rig, and will try to post some pics next week. Has anybody found an easy way to set up some swaybar disconnects? Thanks for lookin'

Welcome to the best “true” off-road site. I agree with you that Expo is a great change from the usual sites dedicated to perfectly good rigs that have been hacked beyond recognition into trendy rock crawlers.

Sounds like a nice Suburban you have there. Another member here, Cowboyjarman, also has a well built square body Suburban.

As far as front sway bar disconnects, ORD sells a great front sway bar disconnect kit for $100. Not only does this allow for disconnecting the sway bar, the kit also allows for the sway bar to fit better when lifted springs are used.

Here are two pictures of their kit installed on my ’78 K10 with a 6" lift. To tell you the truth, I have only disconnected the sway bar twice, the first and last as it is a real SOB to reconnect. If you plan on disconnecting it often, keep your hammer and grease tub handy. ORD has a lot of awesome products for our trucks. I have their rear shackle flip, HD rear shackles, HD front shackles, and HD engine crossmember (The HD front shackles alone give enough flex in the front where I never felt the need to disconnect the sway bar). You can’t beat their quality or prices.

Plenty flexy without disconnecting the sway bar.

Another Utah'n welcome!

Upgrading those axles is a good idea and not too difficult. You won't gain too much strength up front going to the D44 but the rear will be night and day. The increase in brake size on both axles is well worth the effort expecially on a Suburban. As common and cheap as the 14bolts are keep an eye out for a later model as they have the largest drums (even disks in the lastest years) that will really help slow all that weight down. keep us posted on your progress :coffeedrink:

Neat old Burban. Now THOSE are Chevy's you can trust, I like those old beasts. For an expo rig as long as you can carry enough fuel then that must be an AWESOME expo rig. There's clearly more then enough room inside eh.

Cheers

Welcome aboard. I was at the government auction last week and picked up an '04 Silverado. Right after I did an '88 diesel Suburban that looked to me like a 3500 came through the line. It was in great shape and went for $1200! If only I hadnt maxed out my cash flow!
I learned how to drive on an '89 with a 350. That was an awesome truck. Good luck with your build.

Hey, thanks for the welcomes. Never been on a more friendly site! Will post pics of my rigs as soon as I can figure out how. Any tips? My old brain did not grow up with computers!

Ill tell you the way I do it, but someone might know of an easier way. Go to photobucket.com and start an account (its free). Then upload your pictures from your computer to the photobucket account. After they are uploaded there will be several little codes underneath the picture. One says IMG Code. Copy that code and then past it in the forum message box where you want the picture to be. When you post the message the picture will be visible.
