Hello All,

First post, recent searcher/lurker extraordinaire. Short story: back into the SUV game again. Quite simply, we spend a lot of time in Flagstaff, Prescott and all areas in between and need something that is a little bigger and capable of off-road excursions, mostly camping and the like. Also, with two kids in car seats back seat/front seat room is crtitically lacking in the wagon that we just sold

So after much research, I've decided on a full-size Montero as they simply seem to be the best all-around bargain going. I'm looking at anything from Gen 1-Gen 2.5. Of course, my wife likes the newer trucks, but I'm a sucker for old boxy cars (I DD a 1973 BMW). So hopefully we'll find a good compromise regardless. I've also seen a few Gen IIIs for the same price as some of the older trucks, but they make me quite leary.

If anyone knows of any in for sale in AZ, the Four Corners, or even Southern Cal, please let me know. Until then, I'll keep an eye on Craigslist.

Maybe you need to do some more homework on the Gen 3's. For what you described you want to do they are the best and they are tough, real tough.

They'd be my first choice and you'd be your wife's hero.

Thanks, guys. I'm always looking to be my wife's hero, so I'll add those to the mix. I live in North Central Phoenix, but spend a lot of time in Northern AZ, mostly in the area spanning from Prescott to Flagstaff. In fact, I lived in Flag for seven years and miss it quite a bit.

My search has taken me well outside of AZ to find a good truck. Matter of fact, I'd almost prefer out of state, as most of the trucks of that vintage here are missing paint. Searching has been a pain, though, as I sure miss Crazedlist.

I've found a couple of nice and not-so nice Gen Is, but I'm afraid they might feel a little archaic to my better half.

Looked at a two trucks locally, a beat '99 and a 1991. The old trucks are out for me and I've shifted focus to '95-up, preferably '97-00.

Since I can't find anything locally, does anyone have anything local/So-Cal/4Corners? I'm considering a '95 in Burbank if anyone knows anything about the truck, please let me know.
