Hi everybody,
I just happened to stumble across this awesome forum and instantly registered
I'll shortly introduce myself, my name is Koos, I'm 25 and live in the Netherlands. I've been travelling since I was 21. I've driven to The Gambia in West Africa with an Isuzu Trooper, I've travelled for a year in Australia with an HJ60 LandCruiser and I've travelled for 2 months in South Africa in a '98 Discovery 300tdi. I still own that one by the way, it's waiting for my return to SA to go to Botswana and Namibia
.
Anyway. Over here I've got an expedition vehicle as well. A 1965 109" stationwagon Series IIa. It's been seriously altered to my needs and desires.
The old 2.25 diesel and non-synchro gearbox have been junked in favor of a 3B (3.4 litre NA diesel) from a BJ42 LandCruiser. The gearbox is from a BJ40 and is the H41 4-speed with single piece transfer case. The diffs are RR items, which gives a cruising speed of 70mph easily. A mate with a td5 defender 130" has trouble keeping up with me when accelerating haha.
I've got a set of Range Rover axles, fully refurbished, that will be fitted soon together with the master cylinder and the whole dual line setup from the RR giving me disc brakes all round..
For camping I've decided on a platform in the back to sleep on. It has a 3inch foam matress on it. Underneath is storage room for all my stuff. Behind the front seats are compartments for clothing, and on the passenger side (mine is RHD) the fridge slides out of the rear passenger door. On the left hand side of the rear body there's 2 hooks on which I can hold a platform to put my Coleman 2burner petrol stove on. On the place of the rear seats there's a 80ltr (4x 20ltr jerrycans) watertank with electric pump and ceramic filter to ensure I got clean drinking water anywhere I go.
It's got 2 spare wheels, rear spare wheel carrier, high lift jack, roofrack, bullbar, sidebars... the whole lot..
It's an awesomely capable 4x4 that truly goes everywhere, and the best thing.....it has never let me down!!
I'm still not finished though, but can one ever be truly finished????
I'd love to see any comments
cheers
