Control Arm Length
Fred,
Love the new axle!
Curious, how much thread length did you have inside the body of the Currie LCA when it snapped? They recommend 7/8" I believe, but their arms offer less adjustment length than others made for lifted jeeps and I've had trouble sticking to their guidelines on my rear UCA's, which currently have about 5/8" of thread inside the body of the arm.
It's disappointing that they don't use their own forged Johnny Joints, instead opting for a welded on thread. I really like Currie products in general, but am a little disappointed by the control arms.
Just curious...I did change to Rokmen arms on the front of my TJ for this reason, they used the forged JJ's and have over an inch of thread length at "max" length.

As you can see by the photo, most of the thread was inside the arm when it broke, I didn't blame Currie for my break as I don't believe any control arm would be designed for the stress I put on it when the uni-bearing snapped and the full weight of the vehicle came crashing down against the roadway while driving.
On another note.....the test drive was great, no vibration, ran straight and true at 75 mph. We'll see once the drive shaft is back in how it does.
Ran into a problem at the muffler shop. There was just not enough room to collect the two down pipes from the header and then route them sround the drive shaft.
He tried several different test patterns with no luck. He sent me home with an assignment to cut off 4 inches of the two down pipes and then weld on a collector, and return.
This meant off came the intake manifold, power steering pump and then the exhaust header. Then modify the header collector and install the new smaller collector he gave me. Once done, re-install everything and see him again Monday morning (There goes the weekend).
Here is the header andthe collector he gave me which doesn't quite fit right so it took some cutting, grinding and bending to get it to work.
Got everything back together Sunday afternoon so hopefully, Monday morning the exhaust system will be back together.......then comes the articulation test to see if it passes.
Thanks,
Fred
