I don't personally own one of the Jeeps in question, but is always good to watch and raise awareness as I will hate to see someone loose their things or get hurt on some on a similar incident. I was also looking at the Consumer Report and the 2010 Wrangler (4doors) together with the 2007 and 2008 and the 2 door version (2005 to 2007 and the 2009 was rated a one of the cars to avoid. I wonder if this incident is playing a factor on those ratings.
I have never put much faith in Consumer Report, they used to give Jeep Wranglers points off for a rough ride. No kidding, solid axles can give a rougher ride? The don't factor in what the vehicles were designed to do regardless of whether it's a sports car, or an SUV.
I have had no issues with my 2010 4-door, in fact it's been one of the most reliable and fun vehicles I have ever owned. Now of course if it bursts into flames, that would be bad.
I agree with you there's no question that it's good to keep manufacturers in check and raise awareness as it seems they won't do it themselves.
