Nissan canopy on a Tacoma

Ok this question is not an odd one, but one I'm having trouble finding the answers for. I'm wondering if a contractor’s style canopy off a Nissan pickup or "hardbody" (predecessor to the frontier) will fit on a 1st get Tacoma? I've seen only one or two photos of someone trying this so I thought that I would ask and see if anyone has done this.

Dimensionally they are close:

Nissan = 74.60L x 59.80W
Tacoma = 74.50L x 57.90W

Since I am looking for a contractors style cap it will not touch the back of the cab. So I do not have to worry about the length. As for the width it will over hang 1" on either side, but the mounting surface on the inside should be enough to keep it clamped in place since the style of canopy is a little larger.

I was just wondering if anyone has tried this? I only ask because in my area (Seattle) the Nissan contractor caps are much more prevalent than Tacoma models.

So far I haven't been able to find any proof. I've had a few people over on TTORA tell me they've used Ranger, Dakota, and Nissan, but conveniently no one has a photo.

I hate to cross post, but I also posted this in the General section too. Here is an example of the style I am after, and I keep finding for Nissan's

A.R.E. DCU style without the doors on the back. Just the standard canopy window.

Well, I would say that because you're going to try to put a narrower top on your bed, it's not going to seal as well. The good tops have a lip that hangs over the side of the bed rails. The rubber/foam seal sits to the inside of that lip, and the lip hangs down enough that you can't see the contact point of the bed to the topper. What you're looking at will require the top to be supported by the edge of the top, on the lip and not on the seal. That means you'll have to do something different for a seal because the outer edge of your bedside will be exposed.

Worst case scenario, with the top being narrower, the top "may" interfere with your tailgate. i.e., the frame for the rear door of the canopy may impede the use of the tailgate on your truck.

If you've come across a number of these for sale in the Nissan style, I would contact one of the sellers and ask if they would assist you on trying to fit it to your truck. You never know, if it fits I'm sure they'll be happy to sell it to ya.
