Nissan going smaller with new pickup?

toyota made a reg cab 4x4 4cyl version of the tacoma up until a year or two ago, it didn't sell well as almost everyone bought extended or double cab trucks. now the reg cab only comes in 2wd and almost everything is extended cab or 4 door. does nissan even make a reg cab truck anymore?

i thought the same thing, had a 96 reg cab 4 cyl 4x4 hardbody for about 4 months. problem was the cab is so small that i couldn't straighten my legs, and the lack of cruise control meant that i walked all funny after a long drive and my knees hurt.

Nissan hasn't made a reg cab for several years. I bought my 2003 Kingcab for $10K new. It replaced the 2000 regular cab that I bought new for ... you guessed it, $10K. I just can't bring myself to pay $20K for a base model.

BTW, cruise is a relatively easy add on in most instances.

If they would bring back the Gen1 with a four banger and four wheel drive, I'd be at the dealer putting down a deposit. I get about 28MPG and view the truck as a tool, not a statement.

Even a mid-size single cab is to big for a 4cyl. Probably if they put a v6 in it would have sold better.

Not trying to flame, but what exactly do you see as being outdated about it? They're efficient, bulletproof, and fast enough to get out of their own way... Unless speed limits have changed to be a whole lot higher than 70mph I don't really see the need for a V6. My '92 Isuzu 4x4 Pickup (2.6l 4cyl w/5 speed) could easily maintain 75-85 up the grapevine in SoCal and never felt out of breath going to Tahoe with a full load of stuff in the bed. I averaged 23mpg during my 25k miles with the truck. As I understand, it and its other minitruck brethren were all pretty comparable at the time.

I would be all for this... had several hardbodys, have a first gen xterra... great rigs, bulletproof. As much as I would love the new powertrain of a gen 2xterra or frontier, I am like the actual size of the 1st gen. Give me something about that size with a small turbo diesel getting high 20s/low 30s and you have my cash instantly.

I for one am tired of everything getting bigger. Bigger is most definitely NOT always better.
