oddly familiar looking Patrol. We had one that color when I worked for a shop that had a couple. Definetely neat old school trucks, they are in fact super rare...

What do you suppose they mean by "vary rare" ??? :coffee:

Even more rare than very rare?

I saw a nice green one in Monterey, CA a couple of weeks ago. Thought it was an FJ40 until I could see the front grill. I bet parts shopping for one is a lot of fun. Probably some vary rare stuff still available for it.

Used to wheel in Flagstaff with a family that owned three of those suckers.

The one in the add is familiar too...maybe from the Tucson or Sierra Vista area.

If the body is reasonably decent that is actually a great price. Parts are tough but they are existent and there is a community of hoobyists. There is/was a guy who had a ton of them near here in Jackson, Wyoming (but that was a few years ago). I worked for a shop that had two or three, including one of that color. I think they stopped importing them in '68 or '69. I have seen some completely retrofitted to other parts. They would be a great and unique trail rig. They actually feel and drive a lot like an old Rover, more so than an old FJ40...

If you're going to nitpick, the ad actually says, "Vary Cool" not "Vary Rare." ;)

I think that means that its coolness varies from person to person. :D

Its rarity also varies. I have seen several in the Denver Metro area. And up in Meeker, CO, where I went hunting last month, there is a gas station that has 3 of them sitting out in front - one is a wreck, the other two at least have intact bodies. I'm assuming someone's collection?

I can't imagine paying nearly $4k for something that you're either going to have to completely gut and put in an all-new drivetrain, or spend a fortune trying to find rare parts to fit it. Not when you can get an FJ40 for less.

I suppose if you just had to have something that was unique, that would be a good one, although, again, I can think of more unique and more desirable vehicles, but that's just me.

Hay its a word but not sure how it applies here.
var·y (vâr, vr)
v. var·ied (-d), var·y·ing, var·ies (-z)
v.tr.
1. To make or cause changes in the characteristics or attributes of; modify or alter.
2. To give variety to; make diverse: vary one's diet.
3. To introduce under new aspects; express in a different manner: vary a musical tempo.
v.intr.
1. To undergo or show change: The temperature varied throughout the day.
2. To be different; deviate: vary from established patterns of behavior. See Synonyms at differ.
3. To undergo successive or alternate changes in attributes or qualities: Foliage varies with the seasons

That dude cross posted that thing over to Atlanta. There is one in Atlanta that has been for sale for at least 6 months. Not sure anybody here is going to pay an extra $1k plus shipping when the local one hasn't sold for $2500 in 6-8 months.

If I had an extra $3500 laying around I would snatch it up in a heartbeat. There were two of them sitting next to a house near Newhall CA. a few years back. I kept meaning to stop and ask about them but I was a day late and a dollar short.

After that i learned to stop when I first see a potential treasure. I picked up a 1994 Defender 90 a few years back that I spotted in a tow yard. It was covered in dust. You could not see it from the street but I was tillering the hook and ladder truck (the guy who steers the back, I'm a fireman) and sitting way above traffic I spotted the D90. Bought it for $13k and turned around and sold it for $21.
