The Nitro Big Pinion conversion kit for the Dana 44 is a significant increase in strength for your traditional type Dana 44 axle by allowing the fitment of the later “New Generation” type gears that are used in late model Jeep Wrangler JK rear axles.

Larger 24 spline Pinion shaft which measures 1.25” vs. standard 26 spline shaft which measures 1.11”


Larger 8.875” diameter ring gear vs. Standard 8.5” ring gear
Fits: “3 Series” 3.73 & down carrier or aftermarket locker


Nitro Dana 44 "Big Pinion Conversion Kit" Includes:
- Ring & Pinion - larger and stronger than the standard ring & pinions
- PK conversion kit (Pinion Bearings, Seal, Nut, solid spacer, shims, bearing spacer, R/G Bolts)
- Pinion yoke in 1310 or 1350 series

So this is the Jantz kit on a commercial scale? Does it work with stock TJ Rubicon Lockers? I have been looking and I haven't seen a definitive answer. I'm assuming these require the same housing clearancing as well?

Either way, I'm excited and when it's time to regear my LJ Rubicon, I would really like to use the JK gears.

It works with any aftermarket 3 series locker, (3.73 & down). Since all JK gears are “thick." As for grinding inside the housing, it's possible that yours might require that. We have many done installs at our shop that haven't required any grinding yet on the Rubicon housings. We actually installed this setup in our own TJ several years ago, so yes it was our own Idea.
