Noob with a question (130 drawings)

Hi all,

First post on Expedition Portal, but have been registered here for some time, and read a lot of very interesting and informative threads. I've already learnt a lot reading through the various mods and improvements members have done, and especially the self-builds.

I'm 46 and have a dream which my wife lovingly refers to as my mid-life crisis, and that is to do a trip from Amsterdam (Close to where I live in the Netherlands) to Cape Town (South-Africa where I was born) in a few years.

One of the options I'm thinking of is a camper built on a Land-Rover Defender 130 chassis similar to this one, except I'm thinking of having a pop-top with solid sides. Reason is that (I believe) it would be more insulated, and allow me to use the camper year round.

To carry on dreaming, I'm looking for (Autocad) drawings of a 130 (or 110) pick-up showing the chassis and the cab. I'll be ever so grateful if someone out there has something like this and would be prepared to share.

Advice? Comments?

Thomas

Thomas,
Welcome. Pretty cool mid-life crisis/quest.
The one you pictured by Foleys- have you by chance contacted them ?
Stuart Foley is a class act and great businessman. I interact with him several times a week. He tends to be cheaper than other UK dealers selling trucks into the states. Might be a good place to start-he can build anything you might dream up. He was the first to build 130 station wagons and has built many 130 campers to order. He still rents fully kitted expedition equipped trucks ready to roll for the London to Cape Town run. He allows 6mos for a client to make the trip and show up in Cape Town with the truck. He has 1 truck that has done the trip 6 times now (multiple refurbishments).
