"Not so Super" Single F450 pickup - 20" LT Tires? How big without serious mods?

I currently have an F350 SRW with a Northern Lite truck camper.

I am really interested to move to an F450 pickup platform (for turn radius, versatility, bigger brakes, etc).

I do a fair amount of easy off-roading and winter ski so I would like to move to Singles (also not liking the 19.5" tires from what I am reading), but transitioning to Super Singles with military tires (Conti MTP or G275 MSA) seems too much (too many changes and too much money). So would prefer to stick with LT tires for now.

I understand I would need new 20" wheels, and there are a few direct mount reversible options (DBL, Buckstop, Wehring, etc.). I am currently really liking the Wehring ones.

I would like to stick with LT tires, like 38x13.5, 37x12.5 or 37x13.5 or 35x12.5, with about 4,000lbs load each. (I understand my payload would be seriously limited on the rear)

I also would like to be able to go back to the 19.5 wheels if needed over time, hence wanting to avoid massing mods.

Can a stock F450 (2022 or 2023) fit 37x12.5 without any mods? How big can I go with simple mods only (trimming, leveling kit)?

Am I crazy to want to consider this?

Thanks....

I extend an offer to any of you who have questions about super singles. Call my cell and we will talk. 979 997 3112

The short answer is that an LT tire is a good choice of your rear axle weight on a scale is under 8,000 pounds.

We make an LT specific wheel and an MPT specific wheel. The beads shall not be mixed. You need to have a proper LT bead on the wheel to mate with the LT bead on the tire.

It is very hard for me to add pictures on this site so please text me and I will send several

I plan on doing something similar, so whether it is good or bad, I don’t think that it is crazy lol.

Why just a 450 though? Why not just get the maximum capacity in the same size package for basically the same cost?

Not sure what mods you’d be worried about doing that would prevent you from going back to 19.5 but for singles, it would just be wheels. Changing suspension to suit bigger wheels would not prevent going back - it just would be something to remove to go back to stock.

37s fit on 350s with minimal effort so I they would fit on a 450/550 as well - the biggest variable is how you plan on fitting the camper/bed or whatever. 40s might be slightly tougher, but no one is not going to modify this type of vehicle to better suit their needs.

TrailReady will custom make you any kinda wheel and bead profile you want. You could run 40” Toyo MTs and have pretty good weight capacity and still run at highway speeds for way less $$$ than MPTs or GSAs (esp over the life of the truck considering replacements).
