NV hunting and fishing Tacoma

After all the great advice I received on the forum I thought it was time to finally add my truck to the list. The build was centered around having a vehicle that could function as my daily driving truck yet still be ready to head out into the hills hunting or fishing at a moments notice. I also travel a lot to CA and there are plenty of highway miles in northern NV to reach all the spots I visit. Below is a list of the features I have added since September 2009. I bought the truck new in January 2009 and currently have 28K on it.

2009 Double Cab longbed 4.0L V6 Auto
245/75/R16 Toyo MT's with 28K
ARB bumper with fog lights
Warn M8000 winch
OME suspension 886 with Dakar leaf packs
Custom headache rack and bed rails
Caterpillar shock resistant work lights in headache rack

The headache rack and bed rails were made by my father that I designed. I wired up the lights in the headache rack after the photos of the truck were taken. My future plans are to add some additional lighting in the front, probably IPF lights.

Here are a few photos taken on Saturday when I went out to look for California bighorns in northern NV.

I see lots built just like that here in Northern Cali. nice hunting rig. looks like you could do to get a different rear bumper as the stock ones are crap. you ever come into cali by way of smoke creek? Nice drive but once your on the main there is a road called shinn ranch rd 40°35'2.10"N,120°15'1.01"W
Kind of a short drive but well worth it. The road that goes further into cali on the west side is nice to but a lot better on quads.

The longbed is really no trouble at all on the two tracks and such. I have put some good scratches from getting a tight two tracks with sagebrush, willows, and aspens but that is all part of it. My previous trucks were a F150 and Chevy K1500 and my work trucks are all full-sized so it really does not bother me. I'm in the field all the time for work using full size trucks so to me it seems as though the Tacoma is a much easier truck to get around with.

Daverami, smallmouth do a lot better than largemouth in most of our waters. I head west to CA if I want to bass fish. We do have some great fisheries in northern NV, it just takes a while to learn them.

Edit:

A rear bumper would be a very nice addition and is on my wish list. Just something simple to relocate the receiver and trailer plug. I do not care for the tires, fuel cans, etc off the rear bumper as that is a lot of weight hanging off the rear.

If you guys are around the reno area and like to fish I have 2 words for ya - Eagle Lake!!!
Some of the best tasting trout around and they can be pretty big (my personal record is 5.5lbs). only a few hours from you in California. The taste of the fish is well worth the drive. takes me about 3 hours from my place and we go about 3-4 times a year.

Maxama - nice bumper

Cody - don't blame ya on the tire and gas hangin out the back on a truck, it has always been a sore spot with me when I see that. i on the other hand have a 4runner so out the back or on the top are my options.

Interesting, I'll keep that in mind for any up coming trips. Thanks.

Thanks, unfortunately that isn't my bumper, though I wish it were.

Eagle Lake is awesome. I believe the have a strain of McCloud River Rainbows that do very well.

The Eagle Lake strain of rainbows was endemic to Eagle Lake. Those fish have since been stocked in alkaline waters through CA, NV, OR, and probably other states. The McCloud strain were once anadramous fish in the McCloud River which has been transported all over the world. The Tasmanian strain people in the west like to fish for are actually McCloud fish that got sent down to Tasmania before returning to the US.

But yet the fish that come out of Eagle lake still have a size and taste difference. some believe it has to do with the food availabe in the lake as well as the alkaline level of the lake.
