We drove down to Hatteras today. It was around 80 miles from Corolla - took an hour or so, but it was interesting to drive down the coast to see what was there. I should've fueled up in Nag's Head though, because prices really increased as you drove further away from civilization.
Our first stop was the Hatteras lighthouse. We didn't bother going on any tours or climbing to the top of the lighthouse, but we did take a few pictures from the parking lot. I figured we could Wiki everything we wanted to know about the lighthouse for free.
On our way out, I wasn't able to resist the Jeep access sign that pointed to the beach. I thought it'd be cool to drive to the southern tip of Hatteras Island, and my family agreed. The shore was lined with folks fishing from their trucks, and SUV's. After several minutes of beach driving we were there. It was cool, but very crowded.
We were hoping to encounter an artsy shops, or a restaurant district in Hatteras, but we didn't find such a place. I'm kinda surprised, because I expected Hatteras to be more ... bustling. Not to say it wasn't interesting, it just wasn't what we had in mind. We still love exploring new places, so we had a great time.
We ate a late lunch at Dirty ********'s at the Hatteras landing. Drove back to the beach house, and enjoyed drinks and a game of Scattergories before bed.
