Off-highway 18" tire options?

So I defer to the tire aficionados:

I'm looking for a mild->aggressive tread in an 18x8" wheel with as high of an aspect ratio as possible. I do prefer an MT-like tread.

My perfect size: 275/75R18 but I fear the world may end before I see a size like that offered mainstream.

Thoughts?

Both the Toyo MT and AT come in 285/75-18 which is 35" diameter. Spressomon has the AT's.

If you need 34" tires, they also make 285/75-17's in the MT's.

I assume the Maxxis are 65 series tires?

Toyo MT 285/75r18 at $375 a piece. I clearly can't make enough to keep up with inflation.

I paid $550 for the set and they have been an amazing tire, extremely quiet, great on washboards, rocks and on the highway, worth looking into.

$298/ea from Onlinetires.com and you could probably get them cheaper if you shop around. Toyo MT's are expensive to begin with and even more expensive in the uncommon sizes.

I've not been a fan of the new taller wheels, 17", 18" or god forbid the 20s!, but I'm pretty enthusiastic about the LT285/75R18 size. A 35" tall tire that is not overly wide! If I was needing new tires for my F350 and didn't mind buying new wheels too, the Toyo MT in 285/75R18 would be near the top of my list. They are pricy, but as hoser said you might be able to find them for close to $300-$325.00.

Not inexpensive BUT... today I'm putting a new set of tires on my moto which will set me back close to $500.00 (tires & install) and only last a few to several thousand smiles... $1500.00 for a set of truck tires that will last tens of thousands seems inexpensive today :)

New find...

The 285/75-18 Maxxis MT-762 Bighorn that everyone seems to like. Not sure on the price but it's very likely less expensive than the Toyo MT's.

If we could find the weight of that tire, it would be useful too.

My one reservation about the Maxxis tires is they are made in either China or Thailand (two plants). Not bad in itself but it does kinda make me go, "hmm."

I had to laugh out loud because I have been running 20 inch wheels for decades and any tires that cost less than $500 each seem like a bargain.

Yep, but you've probably been running 20s on much taller tires, Unimog maybe?

Surely you’re not part of the new, low-profile fad of running 20-inch wheels and 30-50 aspect ratio tires :) :)

Yep, must be really new...

I just called my local Les Schwab dealer for you Scott to see if they had them and how much. Not available in this size yet :-(

Whoa! that must be brand new within the last week because that size was never available before?

Checky me must!

I sure hope Maxxis continues the trend of following Toyo sizing. I'd really love some 285/75 17's for my JK but it's gonna be hard to swallow Toyo MT pricing and I'm hesitant to get an E rated tire.

I agree with you on both points. Toyo makes great tires but they are expensive. I also don't prefer the less flexible load-range-E Toyo treads when a "D" seems to be good enough, or even better in most circumstances. Lack of sidewall/tread flex doesn’t help off-highway traction.
