Off-Highway Trails Near Ft. Collins, CO

Hey All,

I posted this in the Four Corners Forum as well, but I figured it would work here as well.

I will be in Ft. Collins in mid-July visiting my brothers and will have time to take one may be two trips into the Rockies. I would love to hit up an off-highway trial of some sort. Seeing as we do not have them out here in Ohio.

If anyone has any good recommendations I would really appreciate it. I prefer a beginner trail. My 80 is fairly stock and it has no protection. It will be simply for a fun leisurely afternoon trip into the mountains and to get off the beaten path.

Also if anyone will be around and would like to join me that would be great. I will be in town July 15, 16, and 17. Leaving on the 18th for northern Minnesota.

Thanks

Two other sites to check out:

www.traildamage.com - you can see a map of all the trails on it and select which one you want to see.

www.colorado4x4.org - probably the most comprehensive site for anything offroad for the state.

Having a good book in paramount if you want to get out and explore, epsecially on your own. I really like Charles A. Wells' books. You can get them online or at Borders or the like. I've worked a lot with Chuck and he does great work.

The pic below is a scan of the page covering the area you are talking about from his "Northern Guide to Colorado Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails". For a nice day trip I recommend heading to Rocky Mountain National Park and doing Old Fall River Road. It's perfect for a stock vehicle and it really gets you up and out there.

Have a good time.

Kelly Flats is doable- however take the bypass around heart attack hill if you are squimish

Sevenmile road is great for a stock cruise (FS 225)

Old Flowers is a pretty Drive
