Offroad trailer suspension questions ideas

I am gathering information on building my trailer. I come from a rock crawling family with 2 schools of thought. My dad is no mmore of a skid plate let it slide and I have always ha the keep a tire on the ground flex guy.

Now on a trailer tho you want some what soft for pot holes and such. I don't see them having the weight to flex in a crawler situation. My feeling is all the flex will be in the hitch. As this is only a 3 point setup. So I know I need suspension but I think dad's theory of soft enough to not break the dishes and make it flat let it slide am I correct on this.
