oil type

who is running synthetic oil and is it worth it. I usually change my oil every 5k I am pretty good about check it frequently too. I have an 08 rubicon with a lifetime factory warranty that by the way is 99 years. considering I am 62 I think the jeep will outlast me I hope but I have 120 k on it and I don't want to void the manufacturers warranty but do want to protect my engine.

so is synthetic worth it?
I know is superior to regular oil. Will it void my warranty?
What brands do you recommend?

Those engines aren't hard on oil, so running a synthetic won't really do anything significant to help the engine longevity wise compared to a good non-synthetic oil. However, it might let you run longer between changes, although I'd want to do an analysis on the used oil to confirm this.

Been running Mobil 1 in my '05 LJ since I bought it with 8400 on the clock. It is not a daily driver, so annual mileage is not that high.41K now.
So I change oil once a year. I use full synthetic in any thing I plan to keep!

Running oil in those motors for longer then regular oil change sounds like a bad idea to me. If you don't put a ton of miles on it why not change it 3 times a year?

You can use synthetic or dino. If you're changing it every 5k anyway, I'd just go with normal oil. I run half and half in my diesel because it seems to start a little better in the winter, and because I tend to run the changes out to about 7-8k miles. I run dino oil in everything else. Modern oils are pretty dang good, whether they're synthetic or not. I wouldn't worry about it for normal driving.

To me, the most important to consider is the oil change interval , then you can decide whether to use synthetic or regular.

:sombrero: I run Mobile one 5w-30 and the OM even recommends syn--if it satisfys the specs required(warranty)

I also change oil once a year-I also use VALVOLINE 75w-140 in the diffs, also recommended by the OM-(not Valvoline--syn) !

Whatever

Since the gubmint reduced the allowable amount of zinc in dead dino (petroleum based) oil it is lower quality, IMO. So I now use synthetic in my vehicles.
Yes, IMO, it is worth it but I would recommend starting as soon after the engine break-in period as possible (synthetic is not a good choice for break-in as it prevents much of the wear that allows the parts to seat properly).
Mobil-1 synthetic is good, but I have been considering Shell synthetic for the less used engines
I was/am a great fan of Valvoline petroleum based racing lubes.
I have not been a fan of pennzoil in the past, used to work on engines, their racing oils seemed to be fair, you couldn't pay me to use their standard petroleum oils, I haven't tried/evaluated their synthetic.
Enjoy!
