So I inherited a 1999 Chevrolet 3500 Express cab chassis. It was an Airforce crew truck out of Louisiana. My father in law got it on an auction and turned it into a mobile bunkhouse/office so he could deliver semi trucks around the country. Has about 100k so lower miles than most. Just a few specs. 3500 srw chassis, 6.5l TDI. 14bolt rear axle. 4l80E auto with the common low/reverse band failure. Dual battery system ie: one starting battery and a house battery. What I,ve done so far; Water pump, clutch fan, tstats replaced due to intermittent overheating issue and a leaky water pump shaft seal. What I plan; Rebuild transmission with hd clutches. Replace oil cooler lines for upgraded lines. New transmission cooler. Rewire the house with blue sea fuse panel and install a battery isolator. Queen size bed. LED lighting. The question I have is I havent noted a lot of other builds on this platform and am hoping to get a little input on other mods people have done on this platform. I hope to eventually do a 4x4 conversion on it so it will be more capable off the beaten path. I also need to replace some of the siding on it as some are beginning to show signs of age after 20yrs of exposure to the elements. It has what appears to be plywood with a plasticized coating on it. Any input appreciated.
