Decided to head to PA and finish a hike I did a few years ago. Old Logger Path is a 27.1 mile loop north of Williamsport in the Loyalsock State Forest and I did about 10 miles of it 2-3 years ago. Did 10 miles on Friday and another 9.5 on Saturday. Ended up with extra distance because I had to follow a road back the trail head. Saturday night I camped at the trail head in the car camping spots that are on top of the old CCC camp. My spot was the old mess hall and the chimney to the mess hall was my fireplace. Had some nice campfire reading, came in the mail just in time.
This trail has one of the most pristine swim holes I have ever seen. It is along Rock Run and just beautiful. Fortunately it is far enough away from a road that no party-ers have messed the place up. Some of the trail uses old railroad grades from the early 1900's that were used to log the area. After the logging companies destroyed the land they gave it to the state and CCC camps did a lot of work to bring the area back.
Also stopped on the way home at The Fence which is a car hop that has been in business since the 30's. Burger, fries and drink for $4 right on the Susquehanna River. Also used local places as much as possible.
The East Coast can get a little challenging sometimes in places to get away but they do exist!
