Old MB Overland Rig

So, I am not sure if it's a G-wagon, specifically, but I do know it's an MB. Spotted in Arches National Park the first weekend of February. German plates. I didn't get a chance to speak with the couple that was driving it, but it did look comfy.

That's an 1113. I used to sell them. Not my first choice for a long trip. They are a bit "rustic" in the cab comfort dept. Built from 1970-1979 if my stats are correct. No 4x4 either...

I did take a peek under this one, and I don't know if it was a conversion, but it did have a front diff and portals at both ends...

They were available in 4wd. Never heard of one with Portals, but 4wd certainly.

Here is a 4wd 911 version one at Rallye Dresden Breslau in 2009 (not a 1113, but I've seen the 1113's in 4wd before)

There really cool rigs (IMO) and have been used for expedition use for some time. Dead reliable diesels, parts availability world wide, heavy GVW. I'll have one someday :)

Watch for the red one crossing the water @ 2:23

Another 911 series:

I still remember all the great MB rigs at the Allrad show in Germany and owned by people who actually traveled in them!
Thanks for the post.
