Older (95ish) Disco issues?

I am keeping my options open at this point. The wif wants a 110, (Lotto dream). I would love a Def 90. Lots of things to look at. Just wanted a bit of an edu-ma-cation on the older Discos...

For all intents and purposes, the only differences between a disco I and a defender of the same year is the body and interior and the fact that the disco I has ABS.

I didn't realize that the disco and nas defs were that close under the skin. I have a brother living in Germany again so I will probably look for a diesel if I go the Defender route. His being there opens up the whole G-wagon can of worms too! :sombrero:

Need to add
Valley Pan (intake manifold) gasket - $13 x 2
Valve cover gaskets - can't remember how much, they've been on the shelf a while
Fuel rail - $90

I've had a coolant leak for a while on the valley pan gasket and finally found the time to replace it. Got it in but found the valve cover gaskets were sticking out a bit and wouldn't let me get the manifold back down. So I pulled the valve covers and redid it (didn't want to take a chance on having messed it up the first time, so that's why it was $13 x 2, I used two of them. It was worth $13 to not have to take it all apart again.
I also installed some 98k mile injectors that had been on my Defender. Figured they would be in better shape than my 250k ones. Infortunately, even though the ones that had been in it were not leaking at the fuel rail, when I got it all back together the surface rust in the rail cup that fits on the injectors wouldn't let the o-rings seal, so I had petrol spewing out. Hence the new fuel rail.

1995 disco

figured i'd chime in as well...i have a 1995 dico I that i bought just this year, 90k miles at purchase now 98-99k miles and i love it! iu have a 2" ome lift and some 265 bfg mt's. i'll have to wait the test of time, but at this point i have had the truck from the west coast back to michigan and down south to kentucky/tennesse. it has impressed me every time i take it. i travelled in the mountains while in wyoming and hit some muddy trails down south. on the roads don't plan on winning any races but it has good space and comfort for longer trips. it excels in the snow as well i found myself inadvertently passing cars on snowy highways.

all in all i love the truck as an everyday driver and use it for camping trips and outings, when it come to anything "hardcore" i have a huge jeep for that.

well thats my .02 hope it helps.

Discos have some extra stuff like alarm wires and power locks and windows and other nicities, but the drivetrain and engine and engine electrics are pretty much the same.

You can import a Land Rover 90 or 110 if it is 25 years old or more. Check ebay.co.uk or the german auto websites. Decent ones go for 2000ukp plus about $1500 to get it here RORO and $1500 more or so if you hire a broker to import it for you and handle the logistics.
