Onboard Air - Extreme Outback

I wanted to give a shout out to Extreme Outback and their air compressors.

I have their ExtremeAire High Output 12 Volt Compressor in Robinson Fuso. I noticed that, after 10 years bumping around North and South America, the compressor seemed to have trouble building pressure sometimes (but not always).

Turns out that Extreme Outback has live, US-based tech support and still sells spare parts for 10+ year old products. I talked with their George Carousos on the phone, he walked me through some troubleshooting, and we figured out what I needed to get everything working again (it was a $15 part). George explained that the majority of their customers are either military or construction - who both use their product a lot harder than us casual overlanders and have very high equipment availability expectations (along with good tech support.)

I see plenty of discussion of onboard air products and there are good options out there, but Extreme Outback sells a 100% duty cycle product to customers that are much more demanding than we are, and you can call them on the phone if you have problems. I'm always delighted when I can repair instead of replace.

George was very helpful when I bought my two full top-end kits from him for my two Land Rovers...great service, great product!

Thank you for posting this! I had looked at their products before but never noticed they offered a belt drive compressor. I am in the design stage of a bracket to mount an old York style compressor that off-roaders normally use. Well they offer a much newer style Sanden compressor. I don't know what mods he does to use these for air compressors rather than for AC compressors. I will be in touch with them to find out. This is a major advancement on my OBA system THANK YOU.

I found their tech support to be extremely knowledgeable and passionate about their product, let us know what you come up with.

Rolling your own with a York will be cheaper, but you have to be your own tech and warranty support. :)

Gotta jump in here and agree with the posts. George is the owner and always there to help. We just walked through the addition of an air tank and constant pressure system to my Extremeaire Magnum compressor. Now I have a 4 gallon tank, 2 ports for an air hose and constant pressure to the Roadshower which means 6 min of constant shower pressure. Side note. He and his family and huge Land Rover fans
