In Winter the Cedar Creek drainage creates some fabulous icicles when we get a long hard freeze. So after a number of days not getting above 30, it was time for a drive and some hiking. Cedar Creek roughly follows FSR 2207 in the North Willamette NF.
The route started with clear roads and turned to ice about half way in, then snow shortly after that. The road was actually smoother than normal because the potholes were filled in with ice. Trade off was the slick conditions kept driving interesting.
It had been warming for about a day so some icicles had already fallen, but the area was still transformed from dripping cliffs to ice formations for the most part.
In the icicle zone is also Sullivan Falls
Surprising a couple of areas along Cedar Creek weren’t iced up, so getting down for pictures wasn’t too treacherous.
Great area to kick around in the woods for the day and take in nature.
