Well I just returned to Memphis about 2 hours ago, showered up, and got the wash going. First off I'd like to thank David (Fat Man) for putting myself and my friend Haison up for the night (thursday 4-5) in Conway. Him and his family are very nice and quite comical, they've been on some great trips as well. Also I'd like to thank tony (tdesanto) for his wonderful navigating skills and FRS radios so the bantering between vehicles could occur. Daniel (hattrik21) it was great meeting you as well, wish we could have had a proper send off this morning but schedules do tend to get in the way of fun every now and again.
Now for the pictoral part of my trip...
Friday April 6...
Winona Scenic Trail in the Ouachita Nat'l Forest...
I'm driving the Jeep and Fat Man has the 4-dr Taco TRD 4x4
Now in the Flatside Wilderness of the Ouachita Nat'l Forest...
Lake Winona Overlook..
After the Scenic Drive Haison and I bid farewell and thanks to David for his hospitality and trudged on to meet up with Tony and Daniel in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. We finally meet up off of 259 North of Broken Bow and spend a few minutes eyeing each others rigs talking about gear and finally discussing what trails we were going to explore for a potential camp ground that night.
We finally decide on a route and begin to take 259 North to our trailhead....of which we promptly missed and had to turn around go at it again. We make it onto the trail without issue, we stop briefly once so Daniel could adjust his spring rates, which I found to be pretty cool that he could do. If and when Tony gets a write-up done I hope he can include names for these particualr trails that we took, they all had a numbered code for which trail they were according to GPS and NFS map. However the signage on the trees and those with both GPS and the NFS map never really added up at any one point, so it was always a guessing game to be honest.
The trails were quite tight at times and led to us getting out a few times to do some trail maintenance so that our rigs could get by without running over down trees or getting WAY too much pinstriping on top of what we were already getting pinned with to start with...needless to say I'm glad that I have a silver painted Jeep. Tony in fact had one of his tree straps break off his Montero due to some rough overgrowth. At that point we actually turned around and decided it was best to find another trail to explore for the day...
