Well I just returned to Memphis about 2 hours ago, showered up, and got the wash going. First off I'd like to thank David (Fat Man) for putting myself and my friend Haison up for the night (thursday 4-5) in Conway. Him and his family are very nice and quite comical, they've been on some great trips as well. Also I'd like to thank tony (tdesanto) for his wonderful navigating skills and FRS radios so the bantering between vehicles could occur. Daniel (hattrik21) it was great meeting you as well, wish we could have had a proper send off this morning but schedules do tend to get in the way of fun every now and again.

Now for the pictoral part of my trip...

After the Scenic Drive Haison and I bid farewell and thanks to David for his hospitality and trudged on to meet up with Tony and Daniel in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. We finally meet up off of 259 North of Broken Bow and spend a few minutes eyeing each others rigs talking about gear and finally discussing what trails we were going to explore for a potential camp ground that night.

We finally decide on a route and begin to take 259 North to our trailhead....of which we promptly missed and had to turn around go at it again. We make it onto the trail without issue, we stop briefly once so Daniel could adjust his spring rates, which I found to be pretty cool that he could do. If and when Tony gets a write-up done I hope he can include names for these particualr trails that we took, they all had a numbered code for which trail they were according to GPS and NFS map. However the signage on the trees and those with both GPS and the NFS map never really added up at any one point, so it was always a guessing game to be honest.

The trails were quite tight at times and led to us getting out a few times to do some trail maintenance so that our rigs could get by without running over down trees or getting WAY too much pinstriping on top of what we were already getting pinned with to start with...needless to say I'm glad that I have a silver painted Jeep. Tony in fact had one of his tree straps break off his Montero due to some rough overgrowth. At that point we actually turned around and decided it was best to find another trail to explore for the day...

How was the wheeling? Were there any gnarly points where you had to strap or winch anybody? Am wondering if I could do this alone with the wife and some forestry services maps.

Good pics, by the way. I love that region. Makes me miss my sportbike and all the times I was ********************** up and down the Talimena Scenic Drive.

There were some technical points yes...but everything was doable by oneself I would say. We almost used the winch once...until daniel showed us how strong he really was at moving trees...lol...

That's good to know. The wife and I may have to head up there in a week or two for a quick overnighter.

Where did y'all stay when you camped overnight?

Were you ever concerned about running out of gas or is it just not that remote?

I made sure to be toppedoff with gas for the most part, but there was no real concern for gas consumption. you can get pretty remote if you want too, especially if you end up getting lost on some of the trails. There were a lot of forks in the trails and most of them were not marked or not marked very well. having a GPS would be a big help out there, and even then it was sketchy at times. We camped on the West side of Broken Bow Lake the second night not sure where exactly. but the first night was spent near a river, i think its called the Glover river, not sure. Both routes were taken off of 259 North of Broken Bow the town. Tdesanto would be the guy to PM if you'd like more detail on the area, in fact i'm sure he'd be glad to show you out there too if he has the time.

Great Trip Gentlemen

The trip was a great success. I was glad to meet more great ExPo members. I've been to Broken Bow lake 4 times in these 5 weeks to explore, explore, explore. I'm continually impressed by the beauty of this lake, since it's completely surrounded by the national forest and almost completely devoid of people and all that that implies.

Here are a few pics that I was able to take during the trip.

Getting started on the trails:

First campsite after packing up and ready for the 2nd day of exploring. This is right on the Glover river, about 50-100' behind our trucks. Quite a nice spot indeed:

A little water never hurt anyone:

The 2nd campsite was a bit more difficult to get to, but still very manageable. I stopped just to get the shot:

But really, very, very worth it in the end (the lake shots are about 5-10' from my tent):coffeedrink: :

A Sunday morning drive back to pavement...I wish the trip could've lasted a few more days:

Fun trip, gents. I'm glad each of you could make it and am happy to have finally met all of you in person.

Looking forward to the next ExPo trip.

I hate having missed out meeting Tony and Daniel. It looks like you guys had some fun for sure.

Maybe next time you guys are in the area we will have better luck meeting up.

I was able to get my offroad fix this past weekend, though. Spent two days in the Ozark and Ouachita NF's.

Thoroughly (and I mean thoroughly) pinstriped the Taco....ah what fun!

Yeah, I was sorry to hear that you couldn't make this last trip either.

At any rate, that was definitely not my last trip up there. Plus, my folks live in HS Village, so I'll be up in AR from time to time too.

I'll let you know the next time I'm heading up that way.

Cheers.

It certainly was a great trip...looking forward to more of those with hopefully more ExPo members joining up too if at all possible.
