I went to your blog page and enjoyed the photo essay, well done. How bad was the Hypoxy? Might have to put this one down on the list of trails to do! This area would have to be impassable soon due to weather no doubt, right?

Slooowr6, Thanks! It was nuts. I was at constant odds at what a stupid and wonderful thing I was doing...

Thanks Ckkone, I enjoyed yours. It was cool to see the same areas from a different point of view.

Desertoutpost,
I didn't feel any affects. Just drink lots of water or you might feel a headache coming on which is what i guess is the beginining of Hypoxia. The elevation invigorates you and wakes you up despite the lack of oxygen.
It will be impassible soon. Wait till you see when we tried to do imogene in the snow on the last day. We didn't make it! So I suspect it will melt, but sooner or later it will stop melting.

kcowyo, Thanks! I found a new favorite beer. Its called Barrel 5. I know its from CO, but I'm not sure how big of a company it is. GOOD stuff! :arabia:

Ckkone, You and Danica can fight for the co-rider spot, but watch out she's tricky!

Mountain biker,
Thanks! I gotta move there someday!!

I'm not sure I can do that trail. Props to you for doing that. I've seens lots of folks post pictures from that same spot and it makes me nervous to see every time. I think I'll just avoid that one. :)

Great thread. I am HOPEFUL to be able to do Black Bear pass... but im doubting it.... Because we'll be there in November. But, if nothing else, It'll be beautiful there.

Nice pics and trip!

By far the most photographed vehicle in the San Juans, or at least Silverton.....

Great pics from the Carson townsite. A real hidden gem up there.

I continued up that trail once, past the townsite and down into the next valley. I nearly got stuck down there when my carb'd CJ-7 didn't want to make the climb back out. As I sat frustrated, trying to figure my best approach to the climb, I heard an elk bugle nearby. It was the first time I had heard that in the wild. I sat and listened to him until he stopped. A moving experience for sure.

I'm glad you made it over so many hair raising passes and brought home some great memories of your own.

kcowyo, I know I had seen it before! I was wondering if it just looked very similar to one I had seen or what!
Also, I wanted to keep heading up that road passed Carson, but then again I wanted to take EVERY road until it ended! I need to join the forst service and move there!! :arabia:
LaOutbackTrail, I don't want to crush your hopes, but I'm almost 100% it wont be open. After the first good storm I would not want to be up there! November will be a beautiful time to be there though! I hope to make it up there for a little skiing about then!
Ursidae69, It makes you question your sanity... That much is for sure. You don't know whether to be excited or terrified at your own stupidity for making such a decision!
