Overdue Update and a silly question

 Greetings all - I am writing to you today from the the frozen wasteland of Alaska - still... The trip home to my beloved Colorado had to be delayed due to work reasons - and man, am I bummed. Oh, well - my friend came up from Denver to hang out over the Thanksgiving week and that was cool. Work has picked up pace and I allowed that to = neglecting to update this board of the trip etc. My apologies.

Meanwhile, the DII build goes on - kinda. I cannot remove the Genuine running boards because ther is a bolt that needs to be replaced - by what size I do not know, so that wart is still on.

My newest question revolves around this: I have sourced a set of Steel wheels of the proper offset for my Discovery. Very NATO looking without being the real deal. I am actually trading the factory alloys even because 1) I hate the alloys and 2) steel wheels are just cool. My DII is white and the wheels are black. Should I paint them white? I think white might look better, but thought I would ask the ONE cool, thoughtful Land Rover board on the net what they thought.

In the mean time - Merry Christmas everyone!

Nice score on the wheels. Black will create a little more balance to the vehicle and make the focus on the body (which disco's have great styling). White wheels will make it look more "UN" / Military looking, which is not bad, just a different look.

I would probably go with the black. :safari-rig:

Yep - if you're going to have steel rims on a white truck black is the way to go. BTW as far as the alloy v steel rims question goes - ever tried smashing out an alloy rim when you've bent it ? Easier in the workshop where you have access to a tig :ylsmoke:

Got any pictures of the snow and ice? I'm in NH and we haven't had much of anything ..... getting withdrawl symptoms

Alright, I'll vote white. My white Toyota pickup had silver factory steels on it for the first 12 years of its life. I put silver aluminum wheels on to replace them. Alloy wheels are nice for a truck that see a lot of road miles, smoother, stay better balanced, a little less unsprung weight. But for ruggedness steel is real (having beaten a rim back straight enough to drive home). Color, well I rather dislike this whole black wheel movement, it's a personal thing in the end and I guess I'm a nostalgic fool for old traditions.

How about Silver? I have a set of Silver steel DII wheels that look decent on the white DII. White wheels with a white truck might be to much white, but then it might look Ok too. I have never seen that combo. Black is all the rage with the younger crowd, not sure why though, maybe it is supposed to be "tough"? Black wheels do look good on some white trucks, and just "cheep" on others.

How about someone with photoshop do up a DII with white wheels?

I miss the white steelies of days gone by so I'm voting white if they're solid steel, silver if they're similar to PCRover's.

Here is a pic as she sits now. My German Shepherd, Max, is anxiously looking to see what color the wheels will be next...

I agree with Gary, silver would look good. Otherwise i'd go white on those wheels.

But...i also really like those factory alloy's. Max would agree i think...

Very nice rig you have there, i'm a fan of the Discovery's.

Here is how it might look with the white.

I just found out these are in fact CAMERO wheels - the dimensions seem to be almost stock Land Rover. Do you folks see any disadvantage with them? Probably not a good "even" trade for my Land Rover alloys, huh?
