Adventurer
We are a Greek couple travelling around Africa on a Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.0 TD.
So as to prepare the car for such an expedition, we installed new suspensions, new tires, two spare tires, winch, air compressor, snorkel, free wheel hubs, new front differential group and some more.
Kyriakos Athanasiou, a Vitara expert re-builded Zikos and made a number of vehicle amendments, new suspensions installments and run a complete service and maintenance program. Very briefly, we put a Smittybilt XRC 10 Winch with plasma rope (30m), a set of MAD coil springs, a set of KAYABA shock absorbers and a snorkel (DIY by AthanasiouService).
What is more, we changed a bit the front differential way of working to the old Vitara philosophy. We put an old Vitara group of front diff along with a pair of AISIN free wheel hubs in order to control better the 4WD system.
Moreover, we have purchased a heavy duty T-MAX air compressor, a couple of recovery tow straps, four bow shakles, a snatch block and a high-lift jack.
We also fitted our new tyres choosing a BFGoodrich All Terrain set in 235/70 16 instead of 235/60 16 (manufacturer).
As for the stuff arrangement within the car, we built a wooden box with drawers, tiny shelves and plenty of storage space(!) that will keep everything sorted. Everything will be in place just in time. Fuel and water tanks found their place as well as the second spare tyre on the right of the box. The camping table and two aluminium camping chairs fitted on the top while the clothing and cooking stuff will fit in the central drawer. First aid handbags, tools, spares and notebooks will be somewhere in the car. Please advise the photos.
As for our power sufficiency, we builded and installed a small PV system that includes a 80w solar panel, a 85Ah deep-cycle GEL battery, a 10A MPPT solar charger/regulator and a 700watt AC-DC inverter. Notebook, camera batteries and torches will all be connected as we travel!
Finally, we adjusted on the bottom of the front part of the roof tent, two HELLA 75W headlights so as to have better view on our midnight safaris.
