I've only seen it on a friends PDA in the field once. It looked very good for soemthing on a tiny screen. I believe it was on one of those 640x400 color PDA's.

One issue he had with the setup was that he somehow had to convert the regular USGS maps to the Ozi format before he could load them up on the PDA and that this process took a long time. The map files can also be large, so it might be a difficult to load up for a longer trip unless the PDA has external storage options.

I think PDA displays are a little small for use in a truck, but then, it's really only save to study a map while stopped anyway. What's nice about the PDA's is that you can carry them around on a hike, but then I guess battery life would become an issue on a day hike.

Bottom line as always with these things: There is no perfect solution and you'll have to decide what the most important features of you set up are.
