Painting my roof white? XJFJ? Photoshop?

i posted on JF but this group has better thoughts on these opinions.

In desperate attempt to lower temperatures of my Jeep, I would love to paint the roof white almost like an FJ. But before I go ahead and do this, I would love to see a photoshopped picture or too...

Just the roof only please
Thanks a ton

My thought on this is while sitting still, the Jeep will reflect a bit more than black, --still getting hot though. but at driving, the wind chill/ speed will actually keep the car cooler than if it were black on the roof. I have no a/c and no a/c option on the jeep (its an 88) so by painting the roof, I can keep the interior cooler because of the white.

It may also look kinda cool too and this will be just a precurser to painting the whole jeep white but for now, it may be nice -- I may be a transetter.

I want to use racing stripe vinyl laid down between the ridges, that way it's removeable.

It will definitely help. That's why houses have white roofs in hot places (except in America where people are too bound by convention/fashion to have white roofs in hot areas).

Your plan will work. Their are guys painting their black JK roofs white for the same reason. They report that it does lower temps inside, both after parking and while running.

Sorry, photshop is beyond my limited computer skills.

Get some of that Bus Kote!

Insulative white paint, if you are going for that expo truck, then I think the insulative properties of that paint would benefit you well.

I painted my roof black(my jeep is white). I didn't want to but I needed to fix some rust and couldn't find a matching white anywhere. It looks kinda gay IMO, I think I'm going to rattle can the whole thing flat tan. I didn't feel it getting any hotter but my interior is completly blacked out with leather so it feels like a sauna in there anyway.

couple studies show that no matter the color, 2 identical cars, parked next to each other will eventually reach the same exact temperature. The only difference is how long it takes to do it.

The studies showed a white painted roof will take 3 hours while a black roof will only take 1.5, for example, to reach 120 degree's inside on a hot day. (not exact numbers, just an example.)

On a trip where you are in the car for an extended period, (overlanding), this makes color a moot point.

On the other hand, insulated roofs like the safari roofs on vintage series land rovers that have a separate skin of aluminium riveted to the roof, with a void between it and the roof itself are VERY effective at lowering the temps by a significant amount.

When I had a maggiolina on my cherokee, on hot 100 degree days, where a normal car may be 100 or more inside without shade, my jeep was literally cool to the touch inside, and air temps were about 10-20 degree's cooler. (Though 80 degree's isn't COOL per se, we all know that 80 degrees feels like stepping into a icebox on a 100+ degree day)

I duplicated this with my LJ wrangler by putting a solid floor on my roof rack. it completely changed the charactoristic of driving my wrangler, which came from the factory with an uninsulated hard top. On hot days, it was actually refreshing to hop into my jeep, and seldom did I need to turn on my a/c.

just fyi.

It sounds almost like an accident. I was looking at the rust.... and suddenly..I had to paint it. I HAD TO PAINT IT.
Some children are conceived under similar circumstances.
