Painting trailer cap...what's best to use>

First post on the forum, got a utility/camping trailer a week ago, pretty rough but the bones are there to build a nice one for the use I need. I realize its heavy but won't be doing any real off roading, just easy to drive dirt roads. Made from a 3/4 ton Ford short utility bed, 16" wheels, 40 gal water tank with electric pump, marine battery and a harbor freight inverter(any good, or one of their crappy products). So...back to my question. As seen in the pics the cap clear coat is going away, looks pretty ratty. My idea is to sand the cap and roll/brush rustolem on it. I've done a lot of painting so this is looking straight forward but I've never painted fiberglass. I just need a basic decent looking utilitarian paint job, not a knock your socks off one. What other paints are viable candidates?

thanks, Brian

One of my favorite rattle cans is Blitz Black from John Deere. Tough satin black finish. Being in Cali it might not be available to you though.

Another great product that's made by PPG is " Breakthrough"...dries really quick though, so I'd do it on a cool morning, not in the sun.
