Went for a little camp in the Panoche Hills.:camping:
Very under-used and cool area for camping, hunting, shooting and general exploration.
Looks like a boring wasteland from below, but once you get up in there, you will discover a great variety of rock formations, deer, coyotes, quail, dove, etc, etc.
You can find little canyons and ridgtops to camp and never see another soul.
Rockhounds love the place.
When up on the tops of the hills, about 2800', you can see down into the Panoche Valley, Clear Creek and San Joaquin Valleys.
There are no city lights within 60 miles so you get great night skies with lots of stars.
It is closed in the summer due to extreme fire hazards but you can get 'Star-Gazer' permits from the rangers to get up in there.
A nice little weekend respite.
Here are some pics.
