Don't really see a better place to post this.
I'm preparing to reupholster the shade cover on the sunroof of my Suburban and got to thinking about using alternate fabrics, which then led to the idea of attaching a PVC plastic map holder pouch to it. The shade moves and retracts with the sunroof, so any such thing has to be slim and well attached, to survive the ins and outs of the thing. So just idly thinking about it. Have to wait several days for rains to blow thru, before I can do the repair work, anyway.
Now of course there's all manner of places and ways to jam a paper map, with our without a proper map case / holder. Just looking for any novel ideas. Back in my Marine days we'd just jot radio freqs, map coordinates right on the inside of the windshield glass, we already had the dry-erase markers to hand. And the vertical windshields were right in front of our faces. That doesn't much work with most modern slanted windshields. Nor would one want the ghosted lettering to remain after it's needed. Just seems like an interesting ideal to have a a map holder above with the relevant map in it.
Not as potentially useful as digital devices, but I always keep manual / paper backups along.
