Perseids Meteor shower.

Did anyone go out and watch or better yet take any photos?

I had kind of a bad night. The meteors were not as great as I had hoped. I also had my camera set on a tripod and it got bumped and landed in the rocks right on the face of the lens. So now its got a nice chip in it. Then I go to take another quite long exposure and about the time I go to shut it down I get no response from the remote. Battery dead.

So...I pretty much came home with nothing but a nice ding in my lens. I hope some of you fared better.

Ryan, that sounds like a rude night. Sorry to hear about the equipment tumble.

I went out and looked but didn't see enough from my vantage point to motivate me to attempt any pictures. I opted to go back to bed.

That sucks Ryan, I hope nothing else got damaged.

Nothing but storms and clouds here in NC but I don't think we had a view of it anyway.

6 a.m. for work comes early so if meteor showers are during the week I typically don't get out to watch them. We were in bed but I do wish I could have been out watching it.

I was up at 3am this morning. Saw a couple from the back porch so I loaded up the gear and drove down the street to a darker area without houses. Attempted a few shots but wasn't impressed with the activity so I went back home and back to bed for a couple hours.

Debating going out tonight. We'll see.

In camera, nada, but a jet, but saw several. Including one with a huge tail and colors.

Camped out in Mineral Bottom outside Moab in the Sportsmobile and had a hard time getting anything except airplanes. Had a good time camping though...

Omg!! we were camped about 3 hrs north of toronto. i have not seen a night sky that clear in a long time, sitting at the edge of the lake we saw so many meteors we lost track,, we had know idea we were in for such a good show, i only picked up my new camera last week and do not have a tripod so i did not even attempt to take any pics..

I saw a ton, but the small faint ones don't put out sufficient light to show up on camera well enough unless you're shooting at a very high ISO, then it becomes a matter of having a trigger finger. Very tough. We had one though that lit up the sky, like a fireball, and that is the one I actually caught here with a long exposure. Bottom right third.

Clear skies down in Sierra Vista, AZ. My 10 y/o daughter and I headed out to the patio at 2 AM on Thursday to watch the show. She grabbed a sleeping pad and layed on the patio table and I set her up w/ some hot chocolate and sat beside her. We stayed up and watched for a couple of hours, it was great. Too many to count coming from just above the North/NorthEast horizon.

Some people have questioned the fact that I got my daughter up for 2 hours in the 'middle of the night' on a school night. My justification, not that I need one, is that she's going to remember this for years...not that she was a little sleepy during math class on Friday.

We were able to see a bunch both Friday and Saturday night from our camp near Princess Cove on Lake Mohave :)
