Picacho Mountains 11/22

We headed out this morning bound for the small and rugged Picacho Mountains. We got off I-10 at Picacho Peak and crossed the railroad tracks heading east. We wanted to go around the south side of the mountains and explore the east side.

A view towards Newman peak, our 1st detination was on the other side of those hills!

Stopped at this almost solid volcanic rock hill in the middle of the flats...it presented some great views.

There came a point on this particular road that we were on that it was apparent it had not been traveled in quite some time!

There is Picacho Peak in the background.

We stopped at this crossing over the CAP canal. Looking over the bridge you could see tons of 2-3' catfish swimming stationary against the current. Water was clear as could be!

One the way up the trail to the Newman Peak trailhead.

The view back towards Tucson from the end of the trail.

Lunchtime!

Heading east away from the mountains it became very dry and silty!!!!

We headed back south toward the North end of the Tortolita Mountains and Owl Head Butte.

We came across the baby Javelina just trotting down the road. I was quite weary trying to get close for a picture but there seemed to be no mother around, poor guy.

Our final pitstop!

Had a great trip and saw some new places, can't beat that.:victory:

Yeah, I was going to try to get a closer shot but when I got about 10 feet away the bee's starting investigating me so I used the old zoom and got the hell out of there!:Wow1:

Nice job on the pics.. Son o mine. Probably just a proud Father speaking but I think you have an exceptional eye for content etc. That has to be the cutest Grandchild on this earth. Need to get my rig fixed so's Mom and I can go along with.
